Rafflesia is a boss in Final Fantasy XII fought in the Feywood. To get there the player must have visited Balfonheim Port, and started the Giruvegan storyline, and the player will be able to enter through the heavy Mist in the Antiquity's End area. MP is constantly being sapped during the battle.

Bestiary entry[]

Page 1: Observations[]

Being a giant plant, transformed by the dense Mist of the Feywood. The long trunk-root extending from beneath its bloom is used to draw nourishment from the elder trees it prefers.
Though it reproduces by releasing pollen from pods, the Mist interferes with germination, and actual sproutlings are rare.

Battle[]

Rafflesia will constantly suck away the party's MP at a monstrous rate, and can inflict Sap. Its Cry for Help command calls Malboros into battle, but it cannot be used if Rafflesia is afflicted with Silence. The Malboros it summons constantly use Cloying Breath.

Strategy[]

It is best to stock up on Remedies and Hi-Potions. In the original version any Quickenings one may want to use should be done as early as possible, or else the chance will disappear. This is no longer the case in the Zodiac versions where Quickenings no longer use MP. Any Charge gambits should also be disabled, or else the party will be doing little else. It is best to have one person at range who can use Remedies on party members affected by status ailments. If the party has a Turtleshell Choker, the wearer is shielded from the MP-sapping effect of the field and can still use magicks unimpeded.

Rewards[]

Montblanc will give 1800 gil for defeating the Rafflesia.

Etymology[]

The Rafflesia is a genus of parasitic flowering plants found in southeastern Asia, on Indonesia, Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, Thailand and the Philippines. Rafflesia was found in the Indonesian rain forest by an Indonesian guide working for Dr. Joseph Arnold in 1818, and named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the leader of the expedition.
