Gameplay[]

Quina is a magic damage attacker who has a very versatile kit loaded with utility, making them a powerful support that can still deal respectable damage. Their gameplay revolves around building stacks of the "Frogs Captured" special effect, which increases each time Quina acts and/or breaks an opponent; when maxed out, at 10 stacks, the effect grants massive boosts to various attributes for Quina and the party, most notably making Quina's attack deal max BRV damage.

Their first skill, Eat, grants BRV to the party and deals damage to a single enemy and 50% splash damage to the others, and grants Quina the "I Want To Eat More" buff, which increases their attack and max BRV while also reducing enemies' ATK. Quina's second skill, Frog Drop, grants BRV to the party and deals damage to a single enemy; when "Frogs Captured" is at maximum stacks, it turns into Frog Drop+, which doubles its damage.

Quina's EX, Limit Glove, re-BREAKs all enemies while granting BRV to the party, and also provides the "High Tide" buff, which is loaded with utility: it increases the amount of BRV stolen, grants BRV retention, while also increasing EX recharge speed, BRV regen, and increased BRV and HP damage dealt. Their LD attack, Mustard Bomb, deals damage to all enemies and restores one use of Eat, while also inflicting enemies with the "Heat" debuff, which functions as a trap-type attack that triggers right before enemies act, and ignores their DEF.

Their BT attack, Ultimate Cook, is notable as its effect causes all HP attacks from the party to deal their HP damage limit; it also transforms Quina's Eat into Cook, which is a free-ability that triples its damage. Quina's FR attack, Way of Gourmand, features Fusoya, re-BREAKS all enemies, and its Force Time condition requires dealing at least 9999 BRV damage on turn, and also gains bonuses based on Quina's current stacks from "Frogs Captured"; in addition, Quina's Force Time effect increases BRV damage and its limit for the party.

Allusions[]

  • Quina's primary abilities are based on the Blu Mag skillset of Final Fantasy IX: Frog Drop, Limit Glove, and Mustard Bomb. All three can be learned at any time, when they become available.
  • Quina has an overhead buff related to frogs; the more frogs caught (=higher stack level), the higher their DPS.
  • The name of Quina's FR ability is taken directly from a quote when they meet the party: "Is my destiny to pursue way of gourmand!" As in Final Fantasy IX, the way of the gourmand is never fully expounded upon.
  • Many references to Quina's character arc are present, particularly to the cooking mini-quest featuring Eiko, which is reprised in the later parts of "Dining Dialogue."
  • Quina tags with Fusoya for Force Mode, as both come from mysterious lineages. They are Arciela's Force partner. This pairing is mainly original, as Arciela shares her sweet tooth to them in Act 4, Chapter 1 Part 2 and they create a dessert with her. Arciela is also royalty while Quina is a royal castle's head cook.
