Quevain, a writer for The Thavnairian Truth, had traveled to Ul'dah following a rumor that a horde of aquatic imps supposedly appeared during the Manderville Gold Saucer festivities, and the journalist was eager to find out the creatures' motives for his newest article. Hoping to get more information about the place, Quevain asked for help in the matter and invited Warrior of Light to join in. Quevain was dismayed to discover that the imps were just costumed attendants. Although his initial plans went awry, he decided to write about the imps' relationship with the Gold Saucer festivities.

Following their investigations, the pair were approached by Godbert Manderville, who admitted his involvement in the creation of the March of the Imps. Godbert told them about Typhon, a voidsent summoned by the Thaumaturges' Guild of whom he hired to work on the Gold Saucer. Typhon was proficient in an ancient magic capable of transforming his victims into Imps. Godbert was impressed by these creatures and curious about their origins, so he decided to make them the theme of the festivities in their honor. Undeterred by the persistent questions about the origins of the imps, Quevain believed that Godbert's discoveries related to the imps would be more than enough to captivate the readers of The Thavnairian Truth.[1]
