Pull-Ups is a minigame in Final Fantasy VII Remake, played in the gym in Wall Market by Tifa Lockhart. It can be played during Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope".

The minigame is mandatory during the quest "Wavering Heart" in which Tifa competes against Andrea Rhodea after he takes interest in her. The match against Andrea is the trainee match. After this, Tifa can compete against Ronnie to repeat the trainee match, Jay for the amateur match, and Jules for the pro match.

Tifa's pull-up minigame in FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

Like Squats, the pull-ups minigame is won when Tifa performs more pull-ups than her opponent at the end of a match; in the event of a tie, she will lose. A match comprises two rounds of equal time though on the second round, the button sequence changes. The player must maintain momentum to allow Tifa to score more than her opponent, as the speed will increase.

The button sequence to perform a pull-up is less straight-forward than the sequence for squats, being cross-shaped. Initially, this sequence may be Square, Circle, Triangle, X, but it will change each round. The on-screen prompts fade after a few pull-ups, and the objective is to memorize the prompt as well as to keep track of Tifa's movements. The next button in a sequence should be pressed as soon as she completes one movement, as pressing a button too quickly or waiting too long will cause her to fall. Each successful pull-up allows Tifa to increase her pace.

In the later challenges, during certain points within the challenge, Tifa will grow more fatigued, and she may get caught in a sticking point, during which an on-screen prompt will require a button to be pressed repeatedly before she completes the pull-up. For the Pro difficulty, the challenge steps up significantly, and Tifa will need to also be fast, particularly in the second round, when her opponent, Jules, will not fall until the time is almost complete. This makes maintaining momentum crucial, as is tracking Tifa's speed. One trick is to turn off all sound except for effects and focus on the beep for cuing when to push the next button.

Post-workout[]

Tifa has two victory poses and one defeat pose for this challenge, depending on whether she wins by a wider margin of at least 5 or more pull-ups, wins by a narrower margin or loses the challenge.

  • If Tifa wins by a wide margin, she gives a "peace" or "victory" sign with her right hand.
  • If Tifa wins by a narrower margin, she pumps her fists together at face height.
  • If Tifa loses she falls onto her hands and knees leaning on her right side, with her head bowed down.

Tifa has two sets of victory lines, one set for when she wins by a wider margin of 5 or more pull-ups, and another set for when she wins by a narrower margin. Both sets are borrowed from her battle dialogue quotes. She does not have defeat lines.
