Description
Protect Ring is an accessory in Final Fantasy VII that automatically puts the user under Barrier and MBarrier at the start of every battle, halving both physical and magic damage until the statuses expire.
The Protect Ring is a recurring accessory in the Final Fantasy series since the first game, but Final Fantasy VII is the first game to give it the "Auto-Protect" property.

Protect Ring is largely negligible for the game. Unless the player manages to steal it from Schizo in Gaea's Cliff in "Beyond the Snow Fields", the only way to obtain it is in the final dungeon, by which time the player likely has much better accessories to equip. In addition, the Barrier and MBarrier do not last the entire battle, making it far less useful overall. Even with stealing it from Schizo, it gets little use as other accessories are vastly more valuable to use in combat.
The Tough Ring is likely the superior damage-mitigation accessory to equip. To get the Barrier and MBarrier effects, the player can use Big Guard to easily protect the entire party at once, though the Haste status that is also applied makes the protection buffs expire twice as fast.
