The Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 is an optional superboss in "Episode INTERmission" in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, fought at the end of the "Yuffie & Sonon vs. Top Secrets" challenge in the Shinra Combat Simulator in chapter 2, "Covert Ops", on hard mode. The simulator becomes available at the start of the chapter (easily reached via chapter select) after the episode is completed once. After completing the other challenges on offer, the player can take on "Top Secrets". To face the Pride and Joy Mk 0.5, the party must survive a gauntlet of summon battles, beginning with Bahamut, and followed by Ifrit (whom Bahamut summons at half health), and Ramuh.

Defeating Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 earns two Götterdämmerung accessories that allow Yuffie and Sonon start all encounters with a full limit break gauges, and their limits recharge faster during battle.

The boss is an improved version of the Pride and Joy Prototype fought as a superboss in the base game, which itself was a prototype of the Proud Clod boss from the original Final Fantasy VII, hailed as the crown jewel of Shinra's weapon development. According to Enemy Intel, Chadley has modified Mk 0.5 to be even more dangerous.

Defeating Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 earns the trophy "Ultimate Weapon 2.0".

The real Pride and Joy is visible, still under construction, in the maintenance sector of the Advanced Weaponry Division of the Shinra Building during "The Scent of Materia" scenario. Its size is much larger than the simulated version, being comparable to Proud Clod's, its counterpart from the original Final Fantasy VII.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 uses powerful beam attacks, grapples Sonon to take him out of the battle and likely killing him unless Yuffie can deal enough damage to the grappling hand fast enough to release him. Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 uses bursts of fire damage in melee range and moves slowly. Its different body parts are not separately targetable unlike with the Pride and Joy in the base game; only its arm is when it is holding Sonon. The arm is nigh indestructible, with the same health as the boss, and even using Yuffie's Bloodbath on it will miss.

Despite this, it is still possible to destroy the arm; if Yuffie can bring its health low enough, she can use a powerful attack, such as Thunderous Banishment III, to simultaneously destroy the arm and kill the boss. Yuffie must do her best to only damage the arm throughout the entire fight to make it easier to perform the simultaneous finish. She and Sonon should avoid dealing any damage to the boss when it is not grabbing Sonon, in order to pull off this strategy.

The Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 is weak to Lightning Lightning and resists Fire Fire and greatly resists Wind Wind, meaning Windstorm is neutered in this fight. It uses some fire attacks itself. Its jammer attack inflicts those it hits with various status ailments. It usually always targets Yuffie unless when picking Sonon up. The boss's beam cannon has great range but can be avoided by using Brumal Form or by being up close and behind the boss; if Beam Cannon hits, it will do ~5000 unblockable damage.

Strategy[]

A fully upgraded File:Yuffie shuriken from FFVII Remake icon.png Boomerang is a good weapon for Yuffie for its fast MP-regeneration and Reprieve, and its Magic-focused stats help her deal damage with Lightning Ninjutsu and spells. Chthonian Armlet is a good armor, while both Gozu Drive and Ribbon are good accessory options; Gozu Drive adds a flat sum of bonus damage on top of any ATB ability Yuffie uses that damages the boss based on her current HP, whereas Ribbon makes her immune to the status ailments the boss dishes out. Elemental Materia Elemental Materia with Fire Materia Fire Materia in Yuffie's armor lets her nullify damage from the boss's fire attacks after it has leveled up once, or even gain health from them if the elemental materia is mastered (the previous challenge in the combat simulator can be used for AP-grinding). Yuffie should also boost her health with HP Up Materia HP Up Materia; getting her above 6000 HP to survive Beam Cannon is ideal. The more HP she has, the more bonus damage she can do with ATB abilities with the Gozu Drive equipped. She should also have the Revival Materia Revival Materia in case Sonon falls in battle and a Lightning Materia Lightning Materia for spellcasting.

For Sonon, Firebird Armlet is a good armor as his main role is to support Yuffie. He can equip Synergy Materia Synergy Materia for free spellcasting whenever Yuffie unleashes an ATB ability. Though Pride and Joy Mk 0.5 is weak to lightning, a Lightning Materia may not be the player's first choice as the same set-up must also be used for Bahamut, Ifrit, and Ramuh, and the latter absorbs lightning. Synergy with Ice Materia Ice Materia or Poison Materia Poison Materia may work for all battles.

Any support-oriented materia linked with Magnify Materia Magnify Materia helps bestow the effect to both party members, and is thus good with Time Materia Time Materia, Barrier Materia Barrier Materia, or Healing Materia Healing Materia, depending on preference.

The boss will begin by picking up Sonon. When the pair is far separated, the player can quickly tap to synergize when Pride and Joy is eyeing to catch Sonon to teleport him next to Yuffie, thwarting the boss's attempt. If the boss binds Sonon, Yuffie should target the arm holding him and throw her weapon and then use Lightning Ninjutsu to deal increased damage and use thunder spells. When Sonon is bound, he cannot help Yuffie with healing, so she needs to stay on top of it herself.

The player can either keep as far a distance from the boss as possible and avoid Beam Cannon with Brumal Form, or stay close to it and get right behind the mecha when it readies Beam Cannon. In both styles, it is best to always have Haste Haste.

Pride and Joy Mk 05 attacked with Lightning Ninjutsu from FFVIIR INTERmission

Lightning Ninjutsu.

When keeping distance, the player should use Throw, then Lightning Ninjutsu, and when Yuffie has the ATB, use thunder or another lightning spell (Thunder is fast to cast, instant, and not too costly for MP). With Gozu Drive, Thunder does bonus damage every time and when Sonon has Synergy Materia, and is not currently bound, he will use a free spell from the paired materia as well. When Synergized, Sonon will also use Lightning Ninjutsu when Yuffie does. The player needs to keep ATB near full to be able to use Brumal Form whenever needed; when the boss starts the Beam Cannon, Yuffie should use Brumal Form repeatedly to avoid all damage and then get back to damage-dealing.

When fighting up close, the player can frequently synergize with Sonon, if desired, and use Art of War and Lightning Ninjutsu. Gozu Drive gives bonus damage to Art of War. When using Art of War (the base animation) non-synergized, Yuffie ends in ninjutsu stance, which will now deal increased damage. Synergized Art of War is powerful, is good for pressuring, and ends with the pair in melee stance. Sonon with Synergy Materia will free-cast the paired spell from Art of War, synergized or not. However, it is advised to run when the boss prepares to use Brute Force, which can hit even when the party is behind it. Barrier Barrier may be especially useful when fighting up close.

Yuffie should have Ramuh Materia Ramuh Materia and save him for the final gauntlet battle against Pride and Joy Mk 0.5., and she can use her ATB for the summon abilities as well while concentrating in building ATB with Lightning Ninjutsu herself.

When Pride and Joy Mk. 0.5 is pressured, the player can use Thundaga Thundaga, Sonon's Twirling Lunge, or Synergized Art of War, to greatly raise stagger. If the pair manages to stagger the boss, they can use Synergized Windstorm to raise stagger percentage (though the attack itself may not be so damaging), and then go all out with all their best attacks like limit breaks, especially the limit sync where Sonon and Yuffie combine their limit breaks (the passive ability to enable this is in the fully upgraded Marshalist's Staff).

Thunderous Banishment III.

Whenever Banishment levels up to Thunderous Banishment III, Yuffie should use it right away.

Etymology[]

Though missed in the English localization, the boss is named "Mark 0.5" because the Pride and Joy in the base game is called "Proud Clad Unit Zero", 0.5 being a slight upgrade.
