FFIV Poison Powder

Poison Powder as seen in Final Fantasy IV.

Powder is a recurring enemy ability in the series. It is also a recurring item theme, as it appears in the form of several items, including Dream Powder, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, Silence Powder, and Zombie Powder. Variants of attacks are usually of the same name as the items, though some, such as Silver Powder and Darkness Powder, never appear as items and are exclusive enemy abilities.

Final Fantasy IVEdit

Poison Powder, originally translated as Powder, is an enemy ability used by Hellflapper, Gloomwing, and Eyewing Moth. It inflicts non-elemental damage and, oddly enough, Blind to the entire party.

Final Fantasy VEdit

Several variations of Powder exist, each inflicting a specific status effect. Variants include Confuse Powder, Darkness Powder, Paralyze Powder, Poison Powder, Silver Powder, and Zombie Powder, all used by the Dragon Flower enemies.

Final Fantasy VIEdit

Bone Powder, used by Black Dragon, inflicts Zombie on a party member.

Final Fantasy VIIEdit

Toxic Powder is an enemy ability used by Bizarre Bug. It inflicts Poison to the entire party. There is also an item called Dream Powder that inflicts Sleep on all targets with 80% precision.

Final Fantasy VIIIEdit

Zombie Powder is an item sometimes dropped by undead enemies that can be Refined into Holy Water and Zombie spells. Sleep Powder and Silence Powder can refined into Sleep and Silence spells.

Final Fantasy IXEdit

Venom Powder, used by both versions of Lich as well as Meltigemini, inflicts Venom on a party member. Virus Powder, used by Ring Leader and Yan, inflicts Virus and moderate non-elemental damage to a party member. Zombie Powder is used exclusively by Whale Zombie, and inflicts Zombie to one party member.

Final Fantasy XEdit

Sleeping Powder and Dream Powder are both Use items that inflict Sleep. They can be used to customize different Sleep derived auto abilities to weapons and armor, and the Sleeping Powder can be used to teach aeons Sleep Attack and Sleep Buster.

Final Fantasy X-2Edit

Ebon Powder, an enemy ability used by Bully Cap, inflicts Darkness to the party, while Nausea Powder, used by Big Bully Cap and Mycotoxin, inflicts minor non-elemental damage and Poison to the party. The most dangerous powder, Pernicious Powder which is used by only Mushroom Cloud, inflicts a variety of statuses as well as reducing Strength and Magic to the entire party.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the RiftEdit

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Rather than an enemy ability, Zombie Powder is an item mentioned in several quest lines. It is a powerful drug, whose ingredients are obtained by slaying zombies, that turns the one taking it into one of the living dead. The body begins to rot and decay, but the subjects memories are preserved, if somewhat clouded. It is first introduced in the mission "I Want To Forget", in which the client, who is tormented by unrequited love, wants Clan Gully to get some for him, so that he can use it to commit suicide. The player then has the choice to either slay Zombies, fulfilling his request, or Dreamhares, to create Lethean Draught to make him forget his pain instead.

It is later revealed that Zombie Powder was used to "assassinate" Frimelda Lotice, turning her into a pink zombie that the party encounters several times. Around the end of the Duelhorn quest line, it is revealed that Duke Snakehart drugged the viera girl that nursed Maquis the Phantasm back to health with Zombie Powder.

There is a cure for Zombie Powder, but the Witch of the Fens requires those who seek it to sell their life or their memories in exchange. Ghi Yelgi paid the Witch with his life in order to get the cure for Frimelda, though he still had time enough to seek her out for a duel later on. Maquis the Phantasm paid the Witch with his memories, taking Lethean Draught many times.

Spoilers end here.

Final Fantasy Mystic QuestEdit
