Mechanics[]

FFIX PotionHD

Potion being used in battle

Potions can be used to restore 150HP, in battle, or 100HP outside of it, to a target. If the target is undead or Zombiefied, it will cause the opposite effect, damaging it instead. In combat only, if the potion is consumed with Chemist active, it will heal twice as much, i.e. 300HP.

Heal is calculated as it follows:

On the field:
Heal = ( Item's Power ) * 10
In battle:
Heal = [ ( Item's Power * 10 ) * Modifier ] * 1.5

Potion's healing power is 10. The "Modifier" variable is applied to the item's power and not to the final result. It is used for those factors that affect the healing of the item, for example the support ability Chemist.

Use[]

Auto-Potion from FFIX Remastered

Potions are useful as a healing item, and for synthesizing Opals late into the game. However, they quickly fall off in usefulness though they remain plentiful as spoils from enemies. Equipping Chemist makes them slightly more worthwhile. Auto-Potion can be good especially if the party has no healers, though it can deplete the player's Potion stock quickly. In some versions of Final Fantasy IX Remastered, equipping both Chemist and Auto-Potion at the same time can be glitchy.

When the player has a healer, White Magic is generally better than using Potions.
