Etymology[]

Polymorph is a Dungeons and Dragons spell that turns another person into an animal. The weapon originates from Final Fantasy IV where it gives the "Pig" status, many Final Fantasy concepts having their origins in Dungeons and Dragons.

"Polymorph" comes from the Greek terms poly meaning "many" and morph meaning "form," literally meaning "many forms." In materials science, polymorphism is the ability of a solid material to exist in more than one form or crystal structure.
