Final Fantasy VIII.

Poison (, Doku?), also called Pois, is a recurring element in the Final Fantasy series. It is primarily featured in Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy VIII. Often, attacks with the Poison affinity have a chance of inflicting the status ailment of the same name.

Recurring themes

Equipment

FF7 Star pendant

Star Pendant nulls all poison.

In general, any equipment that protects the wearer against the Poison status (such as the Star Pendant) also protects from the Poison element. In Final Fantasy II, Gold equipment protected the user from Poison. Any weapons with the word Poison or Venom in the name (such as Venom Axe) cause Poison-elemental damage.

Spells

FFVI Tools Bioblaster

Bioblaster is an attack that uses poison.

Poison is a spell in its own right, though it usually only inflicts the status effect. Bio is a Poison-elemental damaging spell, and its upgrades are Biora and Bioga. A few games include Scourge, which often damages and inflicts the Poison debuff. In Final Fantasy II, Scourge (and thus the Poison element) is very effective against Lightning-elemental entities.

Summons

FFXII cuchulainn

Cúchulainn, the Esper of poison.

Poison has only two summons to its name. Doomtrain appears in Final Fantasy VIII and attacks with Runaway Train. The world of Ivalice features an Esper with the affinity of Poison, fittingly called Cúchulainn, the Impure.

Final Fantasy VII

Template:Sideicon Poison gained its first spell tiers, which increased its importance. Because the Poison status deals Poison-elemental damage, it can be absorbed if the character is absorbent to Poison, such as with the Poison Materia linked with a mastered Elemental Materia in the character's armor. If the character is immune to the Poison element (take no damage from it), they are also immune to the Poison status. The reverse is also true: if the character is immune to the Poison status, they are also immune to the Poison element.
