FFVII Bio3 All

Bio3 cast on all enemies.

Poison is an element in Final Fantasy VII. It is a rare element, as it is only really available via the Poison Materia and the status of the same name. Poison damage and the Poison status are interlinked; if an unit is immune to Poison damage, it cannot be inflicted with Poison status, even if it has no resistance. If a unit is immune to Poison status, it is also immune to Poison damage. Enemies healed by Poison gain a Regen-like healing from Poison status, which can also be exploited by the player using appropriate protections. This can allow a party to stack Poison with Regen for fast sustained healing.

There are also abilities that inflict the Poison status but do not deal Poison-elemental damage, like Hades and Bad Breath and the Poison handicap at the Battle Square.

Protection[]

The following allow the player to protect against Poison-elemental damage. Use[]

Poison is a moderately useful element, as only two enemies are weak to Poison and will be instantly defeated upon taking any form of Poison damage, while a handful of enemies either nullify or absorb the element. All other enemies and bosses will take damage from Poison-elemental damage, making it decent for offense. However, if the player is aiming to deal as much damage as possible, it is more useful to try to exploit the enemy's elemental weakness, so using any other element will generally be more useful than Poison. The other upside to using Poison is that it can inflict the Poison status on top of the damage, dealing additional damage to enemies over time.

Poison can be a useful element to resist, as it will affect how the Poison status affects the character. Halving the damage will halve the damage the Poison status will do, while absorbing it will allow the player to heal from the Poison status. However, hardly any enemies use Poison-elemental attacks, so protection is hardly necessary. If the player has immunity to the Poison status, then any Poison-elemental attack will miss the character.
