Mechanics[edit | edit source]
Point Blank is divided into two parts, where the first part is divided into two hits, and the second is a larger hit. Both are primarily ranged damage hits, though the first small hit is a melee ability. The ability consumes all of Barret's current ATB gauges, up to three with Refocus. Consuming more ATB gauges deals more damage.
With one ATB gauge, Point Blank's first part has an attack power of 120 total, with 5 attack power for the first hit and 115 for the second, and the second part has an attack power of 300, totaling 420. With two ATB gauges, the first part increases to 240 attack power with hits of 5 + 235, and the second part increases to an attack power of 700. With three, the first part has an attack power of 515, where the first hit has an attack power of 60 and the second 455, and the second part has an attack power of 1000.
Use[edit | edit source]
Point Blank is a unique ability that is divided into two parts: Barret first punches his opponents, dealing average damage, which then causes a small energy ball to form on his opponent that explodes a few seconds later, dealing heavy damage. Much like Barret's other melee-oriented abilities, it provides him with super-armor upon activated, making it hard to be interrupted by weaker attacks.
Among all of Barret's melee-oriented abilities, Point Blank has the largest potential for damage, but as the name implies, it requires to be as close as possible to his target, otherwise he might miss the blow. When the issue as a command to Barret when not controlled by the player, Barret will close the gap by running before using the attack, making it significantly safer to use.
Point Blank overall has very limited uses, essentially requiring enemies to be staggered or pressured. One great use of Point Blank is to first use the ability, build up some more ATB with Overcharge, and deliver another ability while the explosion portion of Point Blank kicks in.
