Allows the unit to claim a creature's carcass by defeating it with the standard Attack command.
The Ivalice Chronicles' description
Poach is a support ability in Final Fantasy Tactics, learned by the thief job. It converts slain monsters into carcasses, which can be converted into items at the Poachers' Den. The support ability must be learned by expending JP earned for the thief job.
Byblos, a monster which can be recruited after the battle against Serpentarius in the Midlight's Deep secret dungeon, has innate Poach. In The War of the Lions version, Luso Clemens' job, the Game Hunter, also has innate Poach.
Obtained[]
Poach costs 200 JP to be spent on the thief job. Once the unit has learned it, they can equip it in their support ability slot to use it.
If a unit that knows Poach becomes a crystal, a human unit picking up the crystal may learn Poach without spending JP, as long as said unit has unlocked the thief job.
Mechanics[]
Poach allows the user to convert monsters into carcasses, provided that they land the killing blow. Monsters KO'ed by a unit with Poach will disappear from the battlefield, leaving no corpse nor turning into a crystal. Poach only affects all monsters units, except for:
- All the Lucavi bosses;
- Archaeodaemons;
- Ultima Demons;
- Reavers;
- Byblos;
- Construct 7;
- Construct 8;
- The Holy Dragon;
- The Dark Dragon.
Common and rare carcasses.
Once poached, the monster carcass can be converted into an item at the Poachers' Den, a special shop that becomes available in all trade cities starting on chapter 3, "The Valiant". Once poached, the carcass will be automatically sent to the den; this effect is retroactive, meaning that if the player has poached monsters in chapters 1 an 2, these caracasses can be redeemed at the Poachers' Den once the player reaches chapter 3. Items must be purchased from the Poachers' Den, but are always sold at a discount price compared to outfitters.
There are two types of carcass: the common carcass has a 95% chance of dropping when killing a monster, while the rare carcass has 5%; the player cannot increase the chances of acquiring rare carcasses. In the Enhanced Mode of The Ivalice Chronicles version, players can identify rare carcasses by the distinct icon that appears upon poaching a monster, as well in the Poachers' Den menu.
