A playable character is the character(s) one controls in a video game. In the Final Fantasy series, the player is usually given a large cast of playable characters, but can only control a few at a time.

Final Fantasy[]
There are no predefined playable characters. Instead, the player creates and names their own party of characters, selecting each character's job class from the following options:
- Warrior (In the Final Fantasy I * II * III: Memory of Heroes official novelization, one of the Warriors of Light is a Warrior named Setro. In the PS1 Final Fantasy Origins remaster collection, a blue armored knight who is based on the warrior class illistrations done by Yoshitaka Amano was named the Warrior of Light. This name would be used by the representiave of the original Final Fantasy in numerous spin off games from Dissidia Final Fantasy onwards, including Warrior of Light)
- Thief (In the Final Fantasy I * II * III: Memory of Heroes official novelization, one of the Warriors of Light is a Thief named Zauver)
- Monk (In the Final Fantasy manga, one of the Warriors of Light is a Monk named Fritz)
- Black Mage (In the Final Fantasy I * II * III: Memory of Heroes official novelization, one of the Warriors of Light is a Black Mage named Teol)
- White Mage (In the Final Fantasy I * II * III: Memory of Heroes official novelization, one of the Warriors of Light is a White Mage named Flora)
- Red Mage (In the Final Fantasy manga, one of the Warriors of Light is a Red Mage named Puffy)
