The Platinum Toad is an enemy exclusive to the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable versions of Final Fantasy IV. It is fought in one of the challenge rooms of the Lunar Ruins, where a man requests that the party bring one to him, saying that it provides happiness. It must be defeated to continue through the ruins.

The Platinum Toad can cast Toad, Protect and Reflect; it may also use Retreat, ending the battle and regaining its lost health. Rydia's summons can easily defeat it, although the easiest way to kill it is to use Tornado. The player can also use Throw.

Etymology[]

The enemy is named for being a new version of the "Golden Toad", as throughout history platinum has tended to be more expensive than gold and generally considered the most valuable metal. The Jin Chan (Chinese: 金蟾; pinyin: jīn chán; literally: "golden toad") is most commonly translated as "money toad" or "money frog", and represents a popular Feng Shui charm for prosperity.

Platinum is a chemical element with the chemical symbol Pt and an atomic number of 78. Its name is derived from the Spanish term platina, which is literally translated into "little silver".
