Armor made of platinum.
Description
The Platina Armor is a late game heavy body armor in Final Fantasy IX for Steiner and Freya. It teaches Beast Killer, which improves damage to beast type enemies. It halves Ice damage to the wearer.
Like many equipment pieces in Final Fantasy IX, the Platina Armor is based on an equipment piece from Final Fantasy Tactics.
Obtain[]
The Platina Armor is bought for 10,500 gil in Bran Bal and in Daguerreo after visiting Bran Bal.
Mechanics[]
The Platina Armor has 36 Defense, mitigating damage from physical attacks. It halves Ice damage to the wearer. If the character also wears the Reflect Ring weakening them to Ice, they will take ~75% damage from Ice attacks.
Use[]
The Platina Armor is a good heavy armor piece for Pandemonium, though the superior Carabini Mail can be found there. After the party returns to the world map, all the endgame equipment is available. By the time the player can buy the Platina Armor, they could already have the superior Genji Armor from Chocobo Hot and Cold.
Beast Killer from the Platina Armor is not very useful at this late point in game as few enemies belong to this group and there are no beast type bosses.
The Ice-halving effect can be useful against Ash in the final dungeon and the final boss.
Beatrix can also wear the Platina Armor, but the player cannot see this in a normal playthrough.
