Pig (ぶた, Buta?) is a status ailment in Final Fantasy IV and its sequels. The status disables nearly all commands. It can be cured by using the Diet Ration or Remedy items, Esuna, or by casting the Pig spell again.
Appearances
Final Fantasy IV
Pig can be inflicted or cured with the Pig spell, which is learned by Palom, Rydia, Tellah, and Fusoya, or by using Polymorph Rod as an item. The Piglet's Bamboo Sword in the Easy Type version has a chance of inflicting Pig when attacking. In the GBA/PSP releases, the Piggy's Stick (GBA), Hog Call (PSP), and Pig's Bamboo Sword (The After Years) are a homage to the Piglet's Bamboo Sword of the Easy Type version. The Dark Elf's and Li'l Murderer's Whisper (Hex in the 3D versions) ability can also inflict Pig.
The Hog Call Bardsong inflicts Pig in the 3D versions.
The Pig status disables the following commands: Summon, Darkness, Recall, Aim, Focus, Kick, Brace, Twincast, Bluff, Cry, Analyze, and Regen. It also disables all magic including enemy magic other than the Pig spell. White Magic users can still cast Esuna, but only outside of battle. However, it will allow the last command of a character to be executed. In the PSP version the menu portraits for child Rydia, Palom, and Porom feature a piglet.
Some residents of Mythril are Pigs, and in Mysidia, a witch can turn the party into Pigs (and back again, except in the 3D versions).
Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-
Pig returns as a status. The imposter Rydia, Palom, and Rydia already know the Pig spell when they join the party.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
Pig retains all of its features from Final Fantasy IV, and is learnable by Rydia at level 20, and Fusoya, Palom, and Biggs all know the spell initially. The Polymorph Rod and the Queen's Whip can turn enemies into Pigs when attacking. There is also an unused weapon called Pig's Bamboo Sword.
The Band ability Call Me Queen can transform one enemy into a pig.
Final Fantasy XIV
Pig returns once again as a status effect by spells cast by a small number of enemies. When in this state, the player is unable to attack or use any action other than jumping until it is reverted.
Dissidia Final Fantasy
The Pig status card reduces the player's medals by half.
Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy
The Pig status card reappears in the new Labyrinth mode, and cuts medals rewarded by half.
Final Fantasy All the Bravest
This is a man ensorcelled into a pig. But not in an altogether bad way, actually.
Description
Pig is an exclusive character only available from the Premium Character Shop as random downloadable content. He uses the Flirt ability during battle.
