Relm Arrowny, a recurring Pictomancer from Final Fantasy VI.

The Pictomancer (ピクトマンサー, Pikutomansā?) is a recurring job in the Final Fantasy series. It is a unique mage job that utilizes brushes as weapons to create magic portraits of their targets to perform enemy abilities. Like most mage jobs, Pictomancers can equip rods as weapons and can only equip light armor.

Notable series Pictomancers include Relm Arrowny from Final Fantasy VI, Poppy from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Krile Baldesion from Final Fantasy XIV.

Relm Arrowny is a Pictomancer. In combat, she utilizes the Sketch command to create enchanted portraits of her targets to perform one of their abilities on the player or enemy party. With the aid of the Fake Moustache relic, her Sketch command will be replaced with Control, allowing control the target and have access to a list of their abilities.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

The Pictomancer is a job released in the Dawntrail expansion. They are a caster DPS job armed with paint brushes that can manipulate aether to create portraits to attack enemies and support allies.

Additionally, Krile Baldesion serves as the party's Pictomancer in the expansion.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper[]

The Pictomancer is the job of Relm. It is a healing magic job that can use all forms of White Magic abilities, allowing Relm to support the party in combat. A majority of her Soul Breaks involve her painting enemies and party members from her original game. Relm can only equip rods and staves as her main weapons.

The Pictomancer is stated to be job of Relm Arrowny, with her role specializing in dealing magic damage, along with providing healing and support for the party. Additionally, she can naturally learn some Black Magic.

The character Poppy is also an artist unit original to the title, being from Courleur, the Kingdom of Colors. She specializes in using her magical paints in combat to unleash elemental magic attacks on her foes and support the party.

The Pictomancer has appeared in other Square Enix titles in some fashion, referencing the Final Fantasy job.

The Pictomancer appears as a job in the Bravely series, exclusively appearing in Bravely Default II. Its Asterisk holder is Folie, the primary antagonist of the Wiswald portion of the game. The Pictomancer uses paint-based attacks to debuff and deal damage to enemies. In addition, Folie has access to Relm's Star Prism attack from Final Fantasy VI, allowing her to inflict instant death onto her targets.

Prior to the release of Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission, Square Enix held a dressphere design competition to have a contestant's artwork turn into a job within the International release of Final Fantasy X-2. One of the finalists, Miyako Nakajima, had their Pictomancer (ピクトマンサー, Pikutomansā?) concept considered, but was ultimately denied in favor of the Festivalist dressphere.[1]

Etymology[]

Pictomancer is a compound word combining the word "pictura" (Latin for the art of painting) with the suffix "-mancer" (a practitioner of a particular type of magic, such as a Necromancer).
