Petrifying is a status in Final Fantasy VIII, which applies Petrify to the afflicted once the counter expires. The effect lasts approximately 13.3 seconds without Haste/Slow. The afflicted character has faint numbers above their head, counting down to zero. If the target petrifies, they are considered defeated for Game Over purposes. In this sense, Petrifying is similar to Doom. There is no spell that inflicts this status, and it cannot be assigned to ST-Atk-J.
