Final Fantasy Wiki

Restores HP. It cannot be used in the field. Equip as an Add-on.

Description

The Peridot is a jewel in Final Fantasy IX that everyone can equip as an add-on, which can also be used during battle as a healing item. It teaches Ramuh to Dagger and Thundara to Vivi. It can be used for synthesis, and amassing them in the inventory makes Ramuh stronger when summoned.

Obtain[]

A Peridot is first obtained as part of the story in the Pinnacle Rocks, though the player could leave the area without completing Ramuh's trial and thus miss it. They also drop from Griffin, Mistodon, Stroper, Grenade, Tonberry, Vivi (Mirror), and Tiamat (Crystal), and are stolen from Stroper and Quina (Mirror) and Vivi (Mirror).

Twelve Peridots are found in the Abandoned Beach chocograph treasure ChocographLoc05 and eleven are found in the Cold Lagoon chocograph treasure ChocographLoc19.

Peridots are also synthesized in Daguerreo, Black Mage Village (end of game), and the Legendary Synthesis Shop in the final dungeon for 100 gil, an Ore, and a Soft. Softs are bought from shops while Eiko can make endless Ores with Jewel.

Mechanics[]

The Peridot can be used as an item during battle, to restore HP equivalent to the total stock of Peridots x68. Jewels are the only healing items that work on Zombiefied/undead targets. It can be a powerful healing item, but is unaffected by Chemist and cannot be used while in the field.

Holding onto many Peridots makes Ramuh's summon attack stronger; Judgment Bolt attack power = 32 + No. of Peridots.

Use[]

The Peridot is useful for learning Ramuh and Thundara and for making Ramuh's summon attack stronger by holding onto a large stock of them.

A Peridot can also be used in synthesis to make an Anklet.

As jewels do not grant stats, the player should unequip them after mastering the abilities they hold.

Etymology and origin[]

Peridot is gem-quality olivine, a silicate mineral. It is the birthstone for August. The jewels are based on real life birthstones. As such, when equipping as an add-on and if the player has all twelve jewels in their inventory (minus Ore), the jewels are listed in the same order as the birthstones where each gemstone represents a month.
