Paralyzed is a status in Final Fantasy VII. When a unit is paralyzed, they freeze on the spot and cannot act. Paralysis lasts a shorter while than Stop and, unlike in Stop, the characters' Limit Break gauges do not fill when they receive damage during the affliction. Unusually, the superboss Ruby Weapon can be paralyzed. This is the basis of several strategies for defeating it.

Abilities[]

Item Dazers
Limit Break Cross-slash[note 1]
Summon Hades
  1. In the 1996 demo release, it was Cloud's Limit Break Braver, rather than Cross-slash, that inflicted Paralyzed. This was changed in the later 1997 demo version.

Protection[]

The following methods allow the player to protect against Paralyzed:

Accessory Jem Ring, Ribbon
Spell Resist

Though Hades may inflict Paralyzed when summoned, the Hades Materia does not itself contain the status and thus it cannot protect against Paralyzed when paired with Added Effect.

Healing[]

Paralyzed lasts such a short while it may not be worth spending a turn healing it specifically.

Item Remedy
Spell Esuna, White Wind, Angel Whisper
Limit Break Breath of the Earth, Pulse of Life, Great Gospel

Enemies[]

The following enemies are immune to Paralyzed. Most bosses are immune, the exceptions being Aps, Chekhov, CMD.Grand Horn, Dark Nation, Dyne, Gorkii, Jenova∙DEATH, Lost Number, Materia Keeper, Palmer, Poodler Sample, Pyramid, Red Dragon, Ruby Weapon, Ruby's Tentacle, Rufus, Sample:H0512, Sample:H0512-opt, Shake, Staniv, and Turks:Rude (All but last).

Use[]

FFVII Limit Break Cloud Crossslash

Cloud's Cross-slash attempts to inflict Paralyzed.

Paralyzed only briefly stops an enemy from acting, and far less time than Stop lasts. The player has few ways of inflicting Paralyzed, with the big way being through Dazers or Hades. However, Paralyzed has a major use against Ruby Weapon, as it is not immune to the status, and can thus be made exceptionally easier to defeat by using Dazers to stunlock it and prevent it from countering Knights of Round with Ultima.

Cloud's Cross-slash can help with inflicting Paralyzed to enemies, such as in his one-on-one battle against Rufus, and in the Battle Square.
