Background

One of Louisoix Leveilleur's apprentices, Papalymo lost his partner Yda Hext six years prior to the Seventh Umbral Era. Soon after, he was talked by Yda's younger sister Lyse to take her place as Yda. While Papalymo reluctantly agreed while using his magic to imprint the real Yda's tattoo on Lyse, he secretly asked everyone to pretend that she was the real Yda at her behest.

Final Fantasy XIV/Legacy

Papalymo and Yda are first found in the Twelvewoods nearby Gridania after crashing from an airship. Joined by the Adventurer, Papalymo and Yda are ambushed by wolves before forced to flee from a Treant. Luckily, the group are saved by E-Sumi-Yan. Papalymo later joins his fellow Circle of Knowing members in fighting Gaius Van Baelsar and eventually the attempted sealing of Bahamut during the beginning of the Seventh Umbral Era.

Papalymo Yda Meet Adventurer

Papalymo and Yda meet the Adventurer in the Central Shroud.

Papalymo, Yda, and Kuplo Kopp are first encountered inside the Central Shroud during the "Chasing Shadows" quest. While inspecting the disturbance in the aetheric flow of the area, they are attacked by a group of Treants. The two help the Adventurer fight the attacking Treants and they manage to defeat the monsters. After defeating the monsters, Papalymo and Yda watch over the Adventurer after they faint from a surfeit of aether.

After the Adventurer wakes up, he and Yda discover the corpse of a Chieftain Ixal and suspect that it was the one responsible for the monster attack. He then orders Kuplo Kopp to report to E-Sumi-Yan about the situation. After Kuplo Kopp departs, Papalymo and Yda bid the Adventurer farewell and return to report the situation to their leader.

Papalymo and Yda are not seen again until the Adventurer is at the Guardian Tree during the "To Guard a Guardian" quest. During the quest, he and Yda appear to aid the Adventurer during the battle against the Masked Mage. After defeating the Masked Mage, Papalymo and Yda discover that he is one of the Ascians who have been manipulating the Beastmen. During this time, Papalymo begins to suspect something, but refuses to speak about it to Yda at the current moment. Papalymo and Yda then say goodbye to Adventurer and return to Gridania. After returning to Gridania, both Papalymo and Yda are seen at the Greenbliss festival in the city and congratulate the Adventurer.

Papalymo and Yda are not seen again until "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn" quest in Western Thanalan. It is here that the Adventurer learns that they are part of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, a group formed of the Archons and the Path of the Twelve.

He is among the Scions who are captured by the Garlean Empire when Livia Sas Junius attacks their headquarters at the Waking Sands. He is later successfully rescued by the Adventurer and Biggs and Wedge, after which he resumes his duties with the Scions.

Before the Fall

When the Scion's are betrayed by the Crystal Braves and framed for the assassination of Nanamo Ul Namo, Paplymo seemingly sacrifices his life alongside Yda to buy the rest of the Scions time to escape.

XIV HW Yda and Papalymo

Yda and Papalymo still alive

During the stinger of the final Main Scenario quest of patch 3.1, it is shown that Papalymo, along with Yda, are part of a group known as the Masks (likely part of the Ala Mhigan Resistance), and are preparing to attack the Empire. Papalymo is shown to be wearing a brown hooded cloak but still wears his customary yellow mail gloves. He reminds Yda that they can't stay here forever, as they have other responsibilities.

The Gears of Change

Papalymo is seen urging Yda to consider the "Masks" carefully and find out more about their goals, to which she nods in silent agreement.

Soul Surrender

Alphinaud and the Warrior of Light reunite with Yda and Papalymo at a rally held by the Masks. They explain how they came to be involved with the Resistance, and what they know of the Masks. They agree to arrange a meeting with The Griffin's proxy, a double posing as him at the rally. Through this they learn of a gift of crystals intended for Amalj'aa, leading to a fateful confrontation with the Warriors of Darkness.

Back at the Rising Stones, Papalymo requests that he hold on to the Tupsimati for safekeeping.

The Far Edge of Fate

After learning of The Griffin's plot to attack Baelsar's Wall, Papalymo travels with Yda and Yugiri in secret tunnels to try to reason with the Griffin. His true intentions soon become apparent once the attack starts with fighters wearing Grand Company uniforms, and Alphinaud rushes after them. They eventually catch up with the Warrior of Light upon the Wall as the Griffin is revealed to be Ilberd, who deliberately sacrificed his subordinates and use their dying faith in conjunction with his death and the Eyes of Nidhogg to a summon an all-powerful primal above the Wall. After Ilberd took his own life to commence the gather of the dead's aether, revealing that he has Louisoix's Tupsimati, Papalymo orders everyone else to flee as he intends to sacrifice himself to cast the same spell Louoisoix previously used to try to contain Bahamut at Carteneau. Once Yda is taken with the others, Papalymo conducts the spell and seals the nascent primal in a cocoon of light which drains him of his life. By the time Omega was found and activated, Papalymo's life ended with all his spells fading with his death.

Spoilers end here.
