Battle[]

Palmer's attacks are weak and his stats and HP are low. He is vulnerable to Stop and Poison, and curiously, is weak against the Sleep status, taking double damage from attacks that attempt to inflict it, even if he cannot actually be afflicted with the Sleep status itself. He uses Fire, Ice, and Lightning spells on the party with his Mako gun.

The battle is a comical affair. Palmer's motions are humorous when he uses Incite, where he childishly taunts the party. When his HP is depleted, he has a near-miss with the Tiny Bronco's propeller, only to be hit by a Shinra truck upon trying to escape, which he is later shown to have survived.

Strategy[]

Linking Added Effect Materia with Seal to a character's weapon allows them to deal increased damage against Palmer.

Behind the scenes[]

Both the Tiny Bronco and the Shinra truck in the background of the battle actually count as enemies but can never be targeted in a normal game. If battled via hacks, they have blank names.

His being weak to Sleep status damage while being immune to Sleep status may be a jab at Japanese office culture, where willingly putting in long hours and late nights is common. Japanese workers sometimes pass out from exhaustion or pretend to do so at their desks. This is seen as the result of dedication to the company and can be viewed in a positive light, unlike in much of the rest of the world.

If Neo Bahamut is summoned in this battle (only possible via cheating), the piece of land pulled into the sky along with Palmer will also bring with it the Tiny Bronco, which will suffer the full blast of Giga Flare and ensuing fall damage (while remaining intact).
