Use in conjunction with basic attacks to more effectively pressure enemies.

Description

Overpower is an ATB ability for Tifa in Final Fantasy VII Remake, provided by the Metal Knuckles Metal Knuckles. Tifa runs towards an enemy, then leaps forward feet first, and performs three kicks, somersaulting after the third to land back on the ground. She will be able to follow this up with an attack combo that differs depending on her current Chi Level, which allow it to more effectively pressure and interrupt enemies. Overpower was improved in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Obtained[]

Overpower is provided by Metal Knuckles. It is permanently learned by using Overpower on an enemy, and can be learned faster by immediately following it up with a basic attack combo.

Damage formula:

Where Tifa's Attack Power is her Attack Power Attack Power attribute, and Target's Defense is the target's Defense Defense attribute
Power Modifiers: 2.52 ([.2 x 3 hits] + 1.92)
Stagger formula:

Where Pressured Rate is used rather than Stagger Rate if the target is Pressured, while Target's Physical Melee Rate Modifier is the respective stagger rate modifier of the target
Stagger Rate: 4 ([1 x 3 hits] + 1)
Pressured Rate: 5 ([1 x 3 hits] + 2)

After using Overpower, Tifa can follow it up with an attack combo, granting all basic attacks in the combo 50 interrupt strength instead of the usual 30. This will also allow those attacks to be able to launch, knockdown, and interrupt enemies with a higher interrupt defense than her basic attacks normally would be able to. Depending on her current Chi Level, Overpower will combine with Tifa's attack string differently.

Chi Level 0[]

Tifa will follow up Overpower from the second attack in her basic attack combo. Upon successful interruption, the first strike from the final attack can cause launch, but the final strike will interrupt them. If the enemy became pressured by launch in this way, the interruption will cause them to lose the pressured status. Tifa can cancel with dodge, Parry, or Focused Strike before the final hit to prevent interruption. This combo's total power value is 80, while the total stagger rate is 5 (Pressured: 10).

Chi Level 1[]

Tifa will follow up Overpower with her final basic attack. Upon successful interruption, this attack can cause knockdown. This attack has a power 60, and a stagger rate of 2 (4 against pressured enemies).

Chi Level 2[]

Tifa will follow up Overpower at the same point in her attack combo as she would Chi Level 1, but also can continue the combo into the final attacks unique to Chi Level 2. Upon successful interruption, the first and final attacks can cause knockdown, while the second attack can cause launch. This combo is particularly useful, as its total power value is 206, while the total stagger rate is 5 (Pressured: 10). The attacks in this combo can also refill large amounts of ATB.

Use[]

Overpower damages a single target and can be used to pressure and interrupt enemies. It deals decent physical damage, but in combination with Tifa's Unbridled Strength, it plays into Tifa's strengths of quickly building up a stagger by allowing her subsequent basic attack combo to pressure a larger variety of enemies than normal. It can also lock those enemies down, preventing them from using magic or abilities. Overpower is Tifa's only ability that can pressure enemies susceptible to knockdown or launch at 50 interrupt strength besides Omnistrike and magic. This makes it her most readily available option to pressure most regular enemies.

Overpower can be used efficiently with Skill Master Materia Skill Master Materia, as it will often be used in conjunction with Unbridled Strength, Focused Strike, True Strike, and Chi Trap, which can help keep Tifa topped up on ATB while she uses these abilities.

Overpower's main drawback is that many more durable enemies cannot be so easily pressured by it. It deals less damage than many of her other abilities, meaning it is best used for pressuring and staggering enemies and not for dealing damage.

In Intergrade, Overpower can be used directly after Whirling Uppercut, Tifa's default Triangle ability. After performing Whirling Uppercut, Tifa will be airborne, and can use Overpower to continue to string combos together, while interrupting enemies and pressuring them with the subsequent combo. Using Overpower in this way can also help to build ATB faster to follow it up with other abilities, as opposed to using Divekick, which deals more damage.
