Pressing will unleash a devastating attack and charge Barret's ATB gauge. While the skill cannot be used continuously, pressing will shorten the wait time between shots.

Overcharge is one of Barret's two unique abilities tied to in Final Fantasy VII Remake. When charged up, Barret fires several strong shots towards an enemy, dealing tremendous damage, and greatly increasing their stagger gauge while building his own ATB. While not charged up, pressing charges it further.
When Barret equips a melee weapon the ability is replaced with Overrun, which has the same charging mechanic.
Mechanics[]
Overcharge is available when fully charged. Once used, it must be recharged by waiting or by pressing to cut the cooldown by 7 seconds.
Overcharge comprises five hits, where the first four are identical, and the fifth is most powerful. It will fire first at whichever enemy Barret is targeting, but once the target is defeated, Barret will automatically aim at another enemy within his line-of-sight. He cannot target enemies behind him and thus may waste his shots.
Use[]
Overcharge deals excellent single-target physical damage on par with an ATB ability. It greatly increases Barret's own ATB gauge as well as builds the enemy's stagger gauge, which, in turn, allows Barret to use another ATB ability when the enemy is still pressured or staggered. When it is available, Overcharge should be used instantly.
The main drawback with Overcharge is that after it is used, pressing to charge it up quicker takes up animation time and stops Barret from firing his gun. The best way to use Charge is to press instantly after Barret's gun overheats from firing, or directly after using any ability or spell, as the animation is significantly shorter (Barret shaking the gun downward only instead of pulling it up first), thus making good use of otherwise wasting animation on cooling his gun or simply using Charge. This is the optimal way to make use of Charge as it allows Barret to fit it in the action as the normal course of dishing out damage, making Overcharge the natural end of the whole damage cycle.
