The problem with iron helms is the weight and the heat—and the fact that this sword cuts right through them.

Osafune (備前長船, Bizen Osafune?), also known as Bizen's Pride and Bizen Boat, is a recurring weapon in the series. It is often a low-ranked katana.

Final Fantasy V[]

Katana forged by a master swordsmith. Can be used two-handed.

Description

Osafune (originally called Bizen's Pride) is a low-ranked katana, usable by Freelancers, Samurais, and Gladiators. It has an Attack power of 48, a hit rate of 61, and a 12% chance to land a critical hit. It can be bought in Surgate Castle for 8,800 gil.

Final Fantasy XI[]

The Bizen-osafune is a level 95 great katana usable only by Samurai. It can be dropped from the Voidwatch Notorious Monster Uptala in Ve'Lugannon Palace. Its base damage is 110, its delay is 420, and it adds 10 to all of the wielder's basic stats (STR, DEX, VIT, AGI, INT, MND, CHR).

Final Fantasy XII[]

Osafune is a low-ranked katana, and is the second weakest katana, with the Kotetsu being weaker. It requires 35 LP to use and has an Attack of 54. All katana have 2.39s charge, and 1.2s action time, making them average what it comes to attacking speed. It can be bought from Jahara, Mt Bur-Omisace, and Rabanastre for 4,800 gil.

In the Zodiac versions, it now provides 26 Attack, 17 Evade, 31 CT, 20% combo rate, and requires the Katana 1 license for 35 LP. It can be bought in Rabanastre, Bhujerba, and Dreadnought Leviathan for 1,300 gil, or found as a treasure in the Lhusu Mines (Shaft Entry). It can be equipped by the Bushi class.

Description

The Osafune (Bizen Boat in the PS version) is the third weakest katana. It has an attack power of 9, weapon defense of 15%, and can be bought in Chapter 2 for 7,000 gil and found with the Treasure Hunter ability inside Lionel Castle as rare treasure. The katana's Iaido ability is called Verse of Oblivion, which damages the target's MP.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance[]

Masterful sword that can cut through an iron helm.

Description

Osafune is a mid-level katana, and teaches the ability Earth Veil. It provides 35 Attack and 5 Defense. It can be bought from Cyril and Muscadet for 6,400 gil and from any other town for 7,200 gil.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift[]

Osafune is a low-level katana and teaches Iai Blow to Parivirs and Earth Veil to Ninjas. It provides 34 Attack and 2 Defense, and can be bought for 880 gil in the shop after creating it in the Bazaar after using a Water Sigil, Zincatite, and Leucojum.

The Osafune is Gilgamesh's level 30 exclusive weapon. It provides +40 Attack, +41 Bravery, -2 Defense, and EX Force Absorption +3%. It can be traded for 61,000 gil, an Uchigatana, a Scarletite, and Giant's Desire x5.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]

A katana created by a craftsman who founded his own school. He took in many pupils in order to leave his skills as a blacksmith for posterity. All of his students currently work as a group, producing this highly prized blade as a brand name item. Poor quality mass-reproductions can occasionally be found, but true collectors know to look for the osafune's certified traditional finish.

Description

Osafune is a Katana obtained by crafting it using 840 gil, x7 Thickened Hides, x3 Otherworldly Bones, x5 Cursed Tusks, x10 Silver Ores, and x1 Lumber, and by finding it in Lost Village of Marlo. It provides 42 ATK.

A masterpiece made by a swordsmith from the land of Wa, which vanished centuries ago. It is forged from mythril steel in place of the special steel he usually used. The secret of its making was passed on from master to apprentice, down to the present day.

Description in Bravely Default

In Bravely Default, Osafune is a katana that provides 30 P.ATK, 90 Aim, and 15 Critical. It can be bought in Grandship for 3500 pg.

In Bravely Second: End Layer, Osafune is a katana that provides 19 P.ATK, 90 Aim, 15 Critical, and deals 50% more damage to aquatic foes. It can be bought in Ancheim for 950 pg, or stolen from Kamiizumi (ch 1, 5).

Etymology[]

The town of Osafune in Okayama prefecture is famous for its great swordsmiths of the past. The town is known for its Bizen-Osafune Sword Museum.
