Orochi (おろち, Orochi?) is a recurring weapon in the Final Fantasy series. It is generally a powerful ninja blade with various effects throughout each of its appearances.

Final Fantasy XII[]

The Orochi is the second-strongest ninja sword, being beaten by the Yagyu Darkblade. It provides +72 Attack, 20% Combo rate, is Dark-elemental, and has a 10% chance to inflict Disable on hit. Ninja swords are among the fastest weapons; only daggers are faster. The Orochi can be bought from the Bazaar for 15,200 gil after selling Coeurl Whisker x2, Sickle-Blade x2, and Cancer Gem x3. It requires 45 LP and the Ninja Swords 2 license to equip.

In the Zodiac versions, the Orochi is now the third strongest ninja sword that provides 94 Attack, 18 Evade, 25% Combo Rate, has a 10% chance of Disable and is now non-elemental. It can be found as a treasure in the Lhusu Mines (Site 11) or Cerobi Steppe (The Northsward), from the Hunt Club sidequest, and uncommonly stolen from Biding Mantis in Trial Mode Stage 62.

The stronger version, Mesa provides 102 Attack 32 Evade, 32% Combo Rate, has a 20% chance of inflicting Poison and requires the Yagyu Darkblade & Mesa license for 180 LP. It can be bought from the bazaar for 90,000 gil after selling Coeurl Whisker x2, Sickle-Blade x2, and Cancer Gem x3. Both weapons can only be equipped by the Shikari.

Final Fantasy XIII-2[]

This weapon is said to harbor the fey energy of an immortal serpent spirit. Increases ATB gauge recharge rate.

Description

Orochi is a dual sword for Noel Kreiss that provides 60 Strength, 40 Magic, the ability ATB Rate: +40%, and synthesis ability Buff Duration. It can be bought for 5200 gil, Starblossom Seed x2, and Superconductor x2 (Episode 5+).

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

The Orochi is the second-strongest ninja blade in the PSP remake, bested by the Moonsilk Blade. It provides +20 Attack, 5% Weapon Defense, and drains the target's HP when it hits. It can only be obtained via Melee for the PSP.

Etymology[]

Yamata no Orochi (八岐の大蛇?, lit. Eight-branched great serpent) was a legendary 8-headed and 8-tailed Japanese dragon that was slain by the Shintou storm-god Susano'o.
