The Orobon (オロボン, Orobon?) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy XI. It is an aquatic monster, appearing as either a sahagin or an anglerfish.

Final Fantasy XI[]

Orobons appear as a family of aquans comprised primarily of notorious monsters. The common Orobon appears as an NM that can be fished up in the Ilrusi Atoll and on the Silver Sea when sailing between Al Zahbi and Nashmau. It may also be summoned by the Archaic Rampart in the Arrapago Remnants.

Final Fantasy XIII[]

The Orobon appears as an sahagin enemy encountered in the Archylte Steppe, Sulyya Springs, and Eden. It uses Water to slow and daze party members. When weakened, it will use Power Spritz to give itself Haste, Shell, Veil, and Vigilance.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Orobons appear as a family of wavekin. The common Orobon is encountered in the Footfalls region of Western Thanalan, and throughout Central Thanalan. A variety of other Orobons can be found throughout Thanalan and the Black Shroud. Their larger cousins, the Ogrebons, are based on the Final Fantasy XI Orobon.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

The Orobon appears as an enemy exclusive to the original feature phone release, appearing in the Challenge Dungeons. It is dummied content in the enhanced smartphone port since these dungeons do not appear in that version.

Etymology[]

In Medieval folklore, the Orobon is a sea monster which has the body of a scaly fish, and the head of a monk.
