The Oritsuru is a weapon for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII. It is acquired later in the game, and is the second-most powerful weapon for Yuffie overall, below only her ultimate weapon, the Conformer. The weapon has the second-best stats of any of Yuffie's weapons, and eight Materia slots, two of which are linked.

Obtained[]

The Oritsuru is located at the Da-chao Statue, but is at first engulfed in flames. To put out the blaze, the player must find the Leviathan Scales in the Underwater Reactor during "Clash in the Deep Sea", in the chest on the far left in front of the player-controlled submarine. After this, if the statue is climbed and the player enters the cave, the scales react to the flames that block the path, dousing them. This unlocks both Oritsuru and the Steal as well Materia.

If the Leviathan Scales are missed, the weapon cannot be obtained again.

Mechanics[]

As the Oritsuru has a base Attack stat bonus of 90, the base damage for physical attacks when it is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Yuffie's current level and "Strength" is her Strength stat. The Oritsuru also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 116%, and grants a +38 bonus to Yuffie's Magic stat.

The Oritsuru can be acquired later in the game. It is overall the second-strongest weapon for Yuffie, and the strongest weapon with normal AP growth. Oritsuru's eight Materia slots (of which four are linked) and high Magic boost, as well as its high Attack boost, mean it can be geared towards either physical or magic damage, depending on the player preference. As Yuffie's stats are average across the board, either option is viable; though her Limit Breaks include powerful multi-hit abilities, she also has Clear Tranquil that can give her a powerful free heal if left on level 1.

Oritsuru has two lots of two linked Materia slots, and four unlinked slots. The unlinked slots are best used for Independent Materia to boost her stats, or for any Command Materia that cannot pair with Support Materia well. The remaining slots can be reserved for Magic and Summon Materia paired with Support Materia. This can be used either to boost spell damage or capitalize on a physical damage role (Elemental, Added Effect, or Added Cut).

Oritsuru is Yuffie's second-strongest weapon. The Conformer outclasses Oritsuru in terms of stats, Materia slots, and because its mechanic (unlike ultimate weapons for other characters) is consistent. However, the Conformer has no AP growth, meaning Oritsuru should be used when players still wish to level Materia. Alternatively, the Rising Sun, if not missed, can give Yuffie double AP growth on a larger number of slots.

Etymology[]

The orizuru (折鶴 ori- "folded", tsuru "crane"), or paper crane, is a design considered the most classic of all Japanese origami. It is a representation of the Japanese red-crowned crane which has a special significance in Japanese culture.
