A knife forged from the legendary metal orichalcum.

The Orichalcum (オリハルコン, Oriharukon?), also known as Orichalcon, Orialcon, Orichal Dagger, Orichaldagger, or Orichalcum Dirk, is a recurring dagger in the Final Fantasy series. It varies between a mid-rank and one of the most powerful daggers in the games it appears.

Appearances

The Orichalcum appears in the Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary versions. It can be found in the Lifespring Grotto and Whisperwind Cove and is the second-most powerful dagger, providing 28 Attack, 35 Accuracy, and 31 Critical. It can absorb the damage it deals as HP to the wielder.

Final Fantasy V

Template:Sideicon

Description

The Orichalcum Dirk is a mid-level shortsword. It can be bought in Regole, Castle of Bal, and Quelb for 3,400 gil, and provides 38 Attack and 41 Accuracy.

Final Fantasy IX

Template:Sideicon

The most powerful thief's dagger.

Description

The Orichalcon is the strongest dagger, providing 71 Attack, but is not Zidane's most powerful weapon, since it is outdone by some thief swords. It teaches the Detect skill, and can be bought in Bran Bal or Daguerreo (endgame) for 17,000 gil, or can be stolen from Taharka in Ipsen's Castle.

The mechanical knife Zidane uses in his left hand whenever he dual-wields daggers also occasionally goes by the name Orichalcum, and is an entirely different weapon to the similarly named dagger.

Final Fantasy X

Template:Sideicon The Orichalcum is the only appearance of the weapon that is not a sword or knife; instead it is an armlet worn by Kimahri. It possesses the abilities Auto-Potion, Auto-Med and Auto-Phoenix.

Final Fantasy XI

Template:Sideicon The Orichalcum Dagger is equippable at level 70 by Black Mages, Summoners, and Scholars. It has a damage of 20, a delay of 183, and boosts MP by 20 and Intelligence by 2. It is obtained via Synthesis. Its higher quality version, the Triton's Dagger, has a damage of 21, a delay of 178, and boosts MP by 25 and Intelligence by 2.

Final Fantasy XII

Template:Sideicon

The Orichalcum Dirk is a powerful dagger that may cause Slow on hit. It has an Attack power of 59, 1.89s charge, and 1.2s action time, being one of the faster weapons. The Orichalcum Dirk can be bought at Phon Coast for 8,500 gil.

In the Zodiac versions, it now provides 79 Attack, 5 Evade, 21 CT, 12% combo rate, has a 10% chance of inflicting Slow on a target, and requires the Daggers 5 license for 60 LP. It can be bought in Archades and Balfonheim Port for 11,700 gil, found as a treasure in Tchita Uplands (The Highlands), Necrohol of Nabudis (Hall of the Ivory Covenant), and Trial Mode Stage 85 (with Diamond Armlet equipped), stolen from Feral Croc (3% chance). It can be equipped by the Shikari class.

Additionally, the Elite Mark, Gilgamesh, wields a fake version of the Orichalcon belonging to Zidane from Final Fantasy IX as a "trophy", though the blade is much longer than the original and the handle is shaped differently.

Final Fantasy XV

Template:Sideicon Orichalcums are a pair of high tier daggers that can be purchased at Meldacio Hunter HQ for 10,000 gil. They are a pair of golden daggers with a hollowed-out frame reinforced leaf-shaped blade, spiral handle, flowing sheet formed guards, and have a pair of turquoise gems embedded into their crests. Like with most of the weapons found at Meldacio, they bear the power of light, which makes them great at fending off daemons.

Daggers can be equipped by Noctis and Ignis.

A short sword from a faraway world which boasts high attack power against aquatic monsters. It is said this short sword was protected by a fearsome monster under a castle in the world from which it came. All that is known is that the existence of such a phantom metal has not been confirmed in this short sword's land of origin.

Etymology

The word "orichalcum" is derived from the Greek word oreichalkos, meaning "mountain copper" or "mountain metal", and is mentioned in several ancient writings, most notably associated with Atlantis. Orichalcum was said to be second in value only to gold, and was the source of Atlantis' wealth and power. The exact type of metal that Orichalcum was is unknown, but it is commonly thought to be some form of alloy of bronze and/or copper, and other metals.
