Soothsayers who can predict natural disasters - and direct them at foes.
Description
The Oracle is a job in the Game Boy Advance, mobile and Steam versions of Final Fantasy V, found in the secret sea chasm. The secret sea chasm can be entered with a submarine once all the four tablets in the Merged World have been collected; it is located underwater south of Phantom Village, and does not appear on the map.
The Oracle is the strongest mage job in the remakes, boasting the highest Magic Power, but it requires a secondary command to reliably damage enemies due to the unpredictable nature of its Condemn and Predict commands. The Oracle suffers from low Strength, and its inability to naturally equip any equipment to boost elemental attacks outside of the Holy element with staves.
Mastering Oracle for all four characters in the mobile and Steam versions earns the player the achievement "Prediction Machine".
Profile
Oracles dress in ornate robes and circlets with a crystal on the headgear. The job class's design concept seems to be based on the idea of how fortunetellers dress, in addition to artistic depictions of the Oracle of Delphi.
Abilities
Oracles have the highest Magic Power of any class. Condemn becomes faster as the job levels up. Both Condemn and Predict have a chance of benefiting the enemies rather than the party; as such they are risky commands.
Condemn has the following effects:
- Rejuvenation - HP restore
- Recuperation - Esuna
- Brimstone - Fire damage
- Black Frost - Ice damage
- Judgment - Thunder damage
- Salienta - Frog
- Doom
- Still Wing - Stop
The level chosen with the Predict command affects which event occurs. Level 1 costs 1 MP and takes very long for the prediction to come true, while level 2 and level 3 cost more MP (3 and 7 respectively), but have a shorter charge time. The attack used in the prediction depends on the prediction that happened previously with that character, as well as the last digit of the caster's MP at the time the prediction comes true. The power depends on the last digit of the character's HP at the time the prediction comes true.
Predict | Effect | Targets | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Pestilence | Attack | Party | Poison (element), may inflict Poison (status) |
Healing Wind | Support | Party | Cures HP and status effects |
Blessing | Support | Party | Cures HP, may cause Regen (status) |
Divine Judgement | Support & attack | Enemies & party | Holy (element): Cures party, damages enemies |
Deluge | Attack & debuff | Enemies & party | Water (element), may inflict Toad (status) |
Eruption | Attack & debuff | Enemies & party | Fire (element), may inflict Sap (status) |
Hurricane | Attack & debuff | Enemies & party | Wind (element), may inflict Silence (status) |
Rockslide | Attack | Enemies & party | Earth (element) |
Starfall | Attack | Enemies & party | May inflict instant-death |
Cleansing | Attack | Enemies | Non-elemental |
Upon mastery, Freelancers and Mimes gain a bonus to Magic Power.
