There's no gettin' off this train we on 'till we reach the end of the line.
Even the most dauntless of sailors would sooner abandon ship than steer into Shades' Triangle. Be not fooled by the lush and fertile island you spy on the horizon─men and vessels alike have been lost to its allure, never to be seen again. Yes, the wisest choice is to dismiss it as mere illusion. But of course, there are inevitably those who cannot resist the call of adventure.

The Occult Crescent[note 1], known in Japanese as Island of Mirages, Crescent Isle (蜃気楼の島 クレセントアイル, Shinkirō no Shima Kuresento Airu?), is a Field operation introduced in the Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail patches. It takes place on the Shades' Triangle, to the east of Tural. Like other field operations, this content sees players in large instanced areas where interaction between large amounts of players will be possible.
Unique to the Occult Crescent, is the phantom job system, which allows players to set support jobs separate from their main job, which can grant special duty actions and traits.
Story[]
When Ketenramm the Blue attempted to navigate to Hingashi across the Indigo Deep, little did he believe he would find a completely different continent on the way, Tural. However, he was always interested to learn about Shade's Triangle, and the mystery why so many vessels have gone missing there. The Dawnservants Wuk Lamat and Koana gave him leave to investigate, and he recruited the Warrior of Light to join his expedition.
As they approached the island seen in the Triangle, Occult Crescent, it periodically disappeared and reappeared on different locations. Suddenly, the Warrior of Light heard a mysterious voice inviting them in particular to the island, and their ship was drawn in.
Exploring the phantom village, the Warrior and Ketenramm found a sarcophagus that held a tonberry, who called himself the Archive. However, he had never heard about Limsa Lominsa or Tuliyollal, when he claimed to know about the twelve great city states. When the Warrior explained that the current age is the Seventh Astral Era, Archive was shocked, since the last time he had been awake was during the Fifth Astral Era, meaning he had been sleeping for over 1500 years. Also, the veil upon the island prevented him from recalling his memories and knowledge. They then encountered a fairy, similar to those used by Nymian scholars. The fairy called herself Iris, but little beyond that before flying away.
Archive decided to join the expedition to unravel the mystery of the island. As the Warrior explored the island, they noticed that the island held many ruins which were of the architecture of the civilizations that existed in Eorzea during the Fifth Astral Era: Amdapor, Mhach, Nym and Skalla, to name some. The War of the Magi and the following Sixth Umbral Calamity had wiped out all of them, but someone had managed to preserve them in a memory of sorts within Occult Crescent.
