When the two blades it holds are destroyed, it attacks the entire party with Gale Cut. Since the blades always regenerate, don't bother attacking them.

PlayStation bestiary

Number 128 is a boss in Final Fantasy VI. It attacks the party when they flee the Magitek Research Facility. It may be an experiment created in the precedent rooms, as its number seems related to the precedent boss Number 024. It is mechanized and outruns the track, opposing the precedent boss, each representing one of the two aspects of Magitek weaponry.

Stats

Battle

Number 128 starts the battle with Net, which inflicts Stop on a party member, and it uses it randomly throughout the rest of the battle. It counters physical attacks with Blood Feast, a physical attack that acts like the Drain spell, restoring some of its HP. If its Right and Left Blades are destroyed, Number 128 will use Gale Cut, a Wind-elemental attack that hits the entire party. If either blade is killed it will regenerate, so it is best to ignore them and focus on Number 128.

If the battle goes on for too long (usually when the player continuously attempts to steal the Kazekiri), Number 128 may use Blaster on the party, attempting to inflict Death to all characters and resulting in a Game Over if it's successful.

Strategy

The player should avoid using Blizzard attacks and use powerful Level 2 spells. Fira is the best spell for this, as Ifrit teaches it quickly. Powerful physical attacks, like Edgar's Chainsaw and Sabin's Blitzes, are also effective. Locke can steal a valuable Kazekiri for Cyan from Number 128.
