Template:See Also A Notorious Monster is a special type of creature that appears in Final Fantasy XI. Notorious Monsters tend to be plot-related, quest based, or important to the world of Vana'diel as a whole. These can include great beastmen heroes or unique monsters (like named dragons).

When a player checks or inspects a notorious monster (where the game will usually tell the player how hard the enemy is by saying "too weak to be worthwhile," "easy prey," "decent challenge," "even match," "tough," "very tough," or "incredibly tough,"), the player will simply be told that this creature's strength is "impossible to gauge" regardless of how difficult the fight will actually be.
