North Mountain is a location in Final Fantasy V. It is a mountain near the town of Carwen accessible in both Bartz's world and the merged world, home to dragon grass for wind drakes. Patches of this mountain contain purple flowers, which, if stepped on, will poison the party.

In the SNES version, the player is able trigger a walking in air glitch on the mountain.

History[]

Lenna and Hiryu

Lenna tries to help Hiryu.

Fifty years prior to the events of Final Fantasy V, all wind drakes aside from Hiryuu, Lenna Charlotte Tycoon's dragon, were killed in a war. Thereafter, poison grew over the dragon grass, making both the wind drakes and grass extremely valuable.[1]

After hearign rumors of Hiryuu from the villagers of Carwen,[2] the the Warriors of Light traveled to the North Mountain. They found two poachers, Magissa and her husband Forza, planning on capturing Lenna and the wind drake. After defeating them, the party reached the summit, where the wind drake lay injured. Lenna crossed the poison flowers to reach the dragon grass despite the injury to herself. The wind drake cured her after being healed by the dragon grass, and the party rode it to Walse.

Bahamut North Mountain

After Exdeath recombined the worlds, North Mountain is located in a huge desert. Bahamut rose from a landmass after the party completed the Pyramid of Moore, awaiting them at the summit of the mountain for the party to challenge him.

Geography[]

North Mountain WM

The North Mountain in Bartz's world (iOS).

The North Mountain is located on the northeast of the world. In Bartz's world, it is found amidst a forest with other mountains a distance behind it; in the merged world, it is instead located amidst a desert in the northeast (meaning an airship cannot land there).

The North Mountain area itself comprises a path over plateaus, bridges, and through caves in order to reach its summit. The plateaus are very fertile; in fact, the entire area is green in spite of the mountain's apparent height (as suggested by the clouds seen near where the party walks). Around the mountain are several poisonous purple plants on which dragon grass grows, with many of the plants clustered at the summit.

Quests[]

The main quest in North Mountain is to complete the dungeon to obtain the wind drake after leaving the Ship Graveyard, in order to reach Walse. This can be done any time after leaving the Ship Graveyard, as Carwen is optional. In the North Mountain, the spell Poisona, the skill Chakra, and the Antidote items are valuable to heal poison often; as well as enemies inflicting the effect, purple flowers throughout the dungeon also poison the party. Near the end of the dungeon, the bossess Magissa and Forza are fought, against which Knights, Monks, and Black Mages are best.

Bringing a Blue Mage lets the party learn Flash from the Headstone enemy, though they must give it an Ether so it has enough MP to use it.

In the merged world, an optional quest is available, to defeat Bahamut and obtain the ultimate summon. Bahamut is an extremely powerful boss battle, meaning the player should be well-prepared, and thus the quest should be attempted late into the game. Because an airship cannot land near the North Mountain, a black chocobo must first be acquired from the Phantom Village, to fly to a small forest in the desert where the mountain is found.

Musical themes[]

"To the North Mountain" (銀嶺を行く, Ginrei o Iku?), alternatively called "Walking the Snowy Mountains", is the musical theme for the North Mountain.
