Nooj

Nooj is a boss in Final Fantasy X-2, fought in the Den of Woe as the last in a series of illusions created by the Den's pyreflies.

Battle[]

Greedy Aura

Greedy Aura.

Nooj does not have many special attacks, but the few he does have are effective. He has his regular attack, a special gun attack named Rippling Chroma that deals magical damage to one character and ignores Magic Defense, and Greedy Aura, which damages and drains HP and MP of all party members by 3/16 of max HP and MP. Nooj uses Greedy Aura every five turns. When Nooj's HP gets below 3,000, he uses Lightfall, which deals 5,000 points of damage to all party members. Unless the characters are very high-leveled in high HP jobs or have Auto-Life, this will spell certain death.

Strategy[]

It's useful to have an Alchemist because Nooj's MP-draining attacks will render magic users useless unless they have One MP Cost or Spellspring. The other two can use powerful physical dresspheres, such as the Dark Knight or Samurai.

The Dark Knight should constantly use Darkness (if equipping Ragnarok she won't take any HP damage from it), while having the Samurai use Sparkler or any other powerful attack, while having the Alchemist constantly use Mega Potions.

With captured creatures, only one captured creature is allowed to be used in the Den of Woe boss fights. An Adamantortoise can be used as it has high stats all across the board and boasts the highest base HP of all capturable creatures. If it is at a high enough level, it can survive Nooj's Lightfall by having much more than 10,000 HP.

Creature Creator[]

After the player completes the events in the Den of Woe without skipping any cutscenes, they can recruit Nooj into the party with a Trap pod SP in Mushroom Rock Road. In a New Game Plus playthrough, he can also be recruited in Chapter 5 before doing the Den of Woe. Nooj retains his Rippling Chroma and Greedy Aura attacks from his boss battle and can learn Lightfall after surviving a powerful move (e.g. Paragon's Genesis).

Fiend Arena[]

Nooj appears in the Youth League Tournament in the Fiend Arena. He is much stronger than his Den of Woe counterpart and sometimes appears alongside Baralai and Gippal as part of the Ex-Crimson Squad team, which is extremely dangerous to an underleveled party.

He has a scripted attack pattern:

  • Turn 1: Use Lightfall.
  • Turn 2: Use Greedy Aura.
  • Turn 3: Use physical attack on random character (or Mega-Potion if he has less than 44,500 HP remaining).
  • Turn 4: Use Fireworks (or Lightfall if he has less than 44,500 HP remaining)
  • Turn 5: Use Rippling Chroma on random character.
  • Repeat from Turn 1.

Using fast creatures with high stats all around and at least 9,999 HP is recommended in order to be able to survive Nooj's attacks, especially Lightfall, which he can now use twice in his attack pattern. If the player has already obtained Dark Matters, they can mix them with any other item to make the party invincible.

Quotes[]

See you in the Farplane.
Let me end your pain!
No time for farewells...

When using Lightfall:

This puppet show is over!
Pray later.
Death IS happiness.
