Etymology
nodachi, or ōdachi, is a type of Japanese katana that is nearly man-sized. It is so long that it is either carried into battle slung across the owner's back, or it was carried by an attendant. A nodachi is not a weapon typically seen on the battlefield, due to weapons such as the naginata and the yari being more readily available, and so its construction is merely used as a testament to the swordsmith's skill.
TheOf all the depictions of the sword, Sephiroth's version of the Masamune is the closest to being an actual nodachi.
