Nielden is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is a knight of the Crystarium and a friend of Colphas, Callea's father. Nielden appears during sidequests in Lakeland.
History[]
Nielden had promised Colphas that if anything happened to him, Nielden would take care of his daughter Callea. While at his post, the Warrior of Darkness brought the news that Colphas had been killed by a sin eater at Holminster Switch. Nielden is shaken by the news and asks Captain Mynes for a leave of absence so that he can honor his promise to take care of Callea.[1] After Warrior returns with Nielden, Callea says she intends to close the infirmary and move the Catenaries in the Crystarium.[2]
While they were making preparations, a young soldier was brought to the infirmary suffering from a very virulent poison inflicted on him by a wandering beast. With the help of the Warrior of Darkness, Callea manages to prepare an antidote following a recipe from his father.[3] The experience instills Callea with a new confidence. Callea decides not to move to the Crystarium in favor of staying behind to take over the infirmary. Nielden notes how much Callea has come to resemble her father and offers her his continued support as she begins her new career.[4]
While the Warrior of Darkness accompanied Tolas on his way to the Crystarium, they find Nielden under attack. Although they manage to defeat the monster, Tolas suffers a minor injury in the battle. Nielden insists that they go to Fort Jobb, where Callea could tend to the wound. Tolas was very impressed with the effectiveness of the ointments made by Callea and asks if he can buy a batch to take to the Imperative. Callea explains that unfortunately she barely has enough ingredients to make potions for Fort Jobb. Tolas proposes that she ask the woodcutter Mauwyl to obtain the necessary herbs. Though reluctant to impose on the kindness of strangers, Callea agrees to accompany him to the Crystarium to make the request in person. Upon hearing Tolas' proposal, Mauwyl happily agrees, and all present rejoice in what is sure to be a beneficial arrangement for all parties involved.[5]
