Neo Bahamut (バハムート改, Bahamūto Kai?, lit. Revised Bahamut) is a recurring summon in the series. It is a stronger version of Bahamut that originally appeared in Final Fantasy VII. It is a red dragon whose attack is Gigaflare. Template:See Also

Template:Sideicon Neo Bahamut lifts the enemy party on a piece of earth into the sky, before firing a beam that shatters the earth sending the enemy party plummeting to the ground.
This attack is called Giga Flare, and deals piercing non-elemental damage to the enemy party. The Neo Bahamut Materia is found in the party's trip to Whirlwind Maze, lying on the ground.
Neo Bahamut can be summoned by Tifa in the 1997 demo version of Final Fantasy VII.
It costs 140 MP to summon. Neo Bahamut's spell power is equal to 5x the base magic damage.

This Eidolon surpasses Bahamut in strength, sturdiness, and speed. In addition, Neo Bahamut's Giga Flare is exponentially more powerfull than the Mega Flare of its predecessor. Even its relatively short summoning period can be overlooked in light of its outstanding performance in the field. Neo Bahamut's only true flaw is the extremely limited number of covenants. With fewer than ten of these Eidolons at their behest, Sorcery keeps their Neo Bahamut fleet under lock and key, temporarily lending them out to the dominion legions only on very rare occasions.
A more powerful form of Bahamut, Neo Bahamut, is an Eidolon available by completing the Expert Trial Colonel Faith's Revolt on Agito difficulty. It uses Rush, Giga Flare and Shock Wave. Its summoning radius is 3,0m and its summon time is 35s-50s.

Etymology
Neo is a prefix from the ancient Greek word for "new" or "young".
Bahamut (Arabic بهموت Bahamūt) originated as an enormous whale in ancient pre-Islamic Arabian mythology. Upon Bahamut's back stands a bull with four thousand eyes, ears, noses, mouths, tongues and feet called Kujuta (also spelled "Kuyutha") (compared with the pair of Behemoth and Leviathan). Between each of these is a distance of a 500-year journey. On the back of Kujuta is a mountain of ruby. Atop this mountain is an angel who carries six hells, earth, and seven heavens on its shoulders.
Another version of the Arabic story is that Bahamut is indeed a dragon and he stands on a whale called Liwash.
In modern times, the game Dungeons & Dragons is responsible for reimagining Bahamut as the king of dragons, a benevolent Platinum Dragon; the opposite of the malevolent Tiamat, the five-headed Chromatic Queen of Dragons.
The 改 (Kai?) in Neo Bahamut's Japanese name comes from Ki-202 Shūsui Kai (秋水改), a Japanese fighter plane. It means "improved".
