Nekhbet is a Rare Game enemy found in the Sand-swept Naze area in the Dalmasca Estersand in Final Fantasy XII. It resembles a regular Cockatrice, but it is unwise to attack it early on, as it is a lot tougher.

At least one Cockatrice must be killed for Nekhbet to spawn (20% chance). It may spawn in one of three locations in the Sand-swept Naze: the westernmost point, the central area, or the eastern area close to the Murmuring Defile section on the world map.

It is also fought in the Zodiac versions' Trial Mode at Stage 5 along with a Werewolf and four Cockatrices.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

In Egyptian mythology, Nekhbet was an early, pre-dynastic, local goddess who was the patron of the city of Nekheb, her name meaning "of Nekheb". She was seen as a goddess who had chosen to adopt the city, and consequently depicted as a vulture, a creature that the Egyptians thought only existed as females, having to adopt children. The priestesses of Nekhbet were called muu (mothers), and wore robes of vulture feathers.
