Naught but Nightmares is the seventeenth chapter in World of Final Fantasy.

Story[]

Lann and Reyn spot the train, and Reyn is disturbed to see that it has been decorated in a spooky motif.  Noticing her state of mind, the conductor deliberately startles her.  An incensed Reyn chases the conductor all over the train, trying to hit him; but the conductor is too agile, and Reyn settles for smacking Lann in the face.  They ride the train to Tometown.  As they approach the village's Library of the Ancients, they see it is held by a Bahamutian anchor.  Inside, they are attacked by vampires and aided by Cloud, who was sent by the League of S to investigate the anchor after it suddenly appeared.  They meet Celes, a mercenary who protects the library, and Cid, an avid booklover whose soul inhabits a robot body.  Upon learning that the vampires are humans that were themselves bitten by vampires, the siblings search the nearby train graveyard to find the original vampire, Vampire Prime.  Vampire Prime swoops down and abducts Reyn, but Lann finds her a short distance ahead and they strike down Vampire Prime.  However, it immediately rises again and Reyn turns into a vampire, having been bitten.  Cloud appears and tosses Lann a wooden stake, with which he definitively kills Vampire Prime, restoring Reyn.  Cloud credt's Cid's research for revealing their need of a stake from a tree older than Vampire Prime.  They find the Key of Shadows but Cloud questions what the keys will unlock.  After their departure, Odin stalks the trainyard.  Lann and Reyn return to Tometown and find its population restored, but Celes is troubled that the people seem indifferent to their conquest by Bahamut.  Lann and Reyn ask Cid about the Key of Tides, and he suggests they visit Besaid on the continent above.  He also mentions that the Crimson Prophecy is not mentioned anywhere in the library's vast archives, suggesting it is not an ancient document deserving of the name "prophecy."
