Nalbina Fortress is a location in the world of Ivalice in Final Fantasy XII. It is a fortress that once belonged to the Kingdom of Nabradia located just northeast of Rabanastre, marking the border of Dalmasca and Nabradia. The inside of the fortress itself is also an unrevisitable location that serves as the game's prologue. Beneath it lie the Nalbina Dungeons.
Profile[]
Sage Knowledge[]
A fortress built on an oasis located between the old kingdoms of Dalmasca and Nabradia. Defended by high ridges and barren sands, long it stood firm against generations of aggressors. Nalbina Fortress and the merchant town that sprung up in its shadow made the area a focal point for local commerce. The treaty to end hostilities in the war with Archadia was signed at Nalbina, yet immediately after the signing, the Dalmascan king was slain, and as a result, the Kingdom of Dalmasca came under complete Archadian Imperial rule. In the two years since the war and occupation by Archadian forces, the fortress has become a key strategic stronghold against the distant, yet ever-threatening, Rozarrian Empire. Works continue to this day to repair the damage which the fortress suffered during the war. Recently, markets where antiques and rarities can readily be had have sprung up in the outer wards of the fortress, taking advantage of the steady flow of traffic which passes through this midpoint between Rabanastre and Nabudis. It is this pivotal location that gives the fortress its unique character. Many are the travelers who visit Nalbina Fortress to witness this ever-booming oasis that refuses to silt over in neglect, or crumble before the blistering winds of war.

Story[]
It was here, during the Battle of Nalbina Fortress, that the Knights of Dalmasca were decimated, and Prince Rasler succumbed to the arrow of an imperial soldier. A short while later, King Raminas was assassinated in the royal apartments, marking the end of autonomous rule for Dalmasca. A young soldier named Reks also died as a result of being wounded in the assassination, and Dalmasca's Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg was charged with the crimes.
After the imperials took control of Nalbina Fortress, it is now primarily used as a prison. The city itself has been rebuilt, and now contains a thriving market and an airship dock. Soldiers are plentiful, guarding the access to Mosphoran Highwaste, and those wanting to visit the aerodrome are escorted through the fortress.
Locations[]
West Ward[]
Aerodrome[]
The aerodrome is accessed by being escorted by an imperial soldier into the fortress. The East Ivalice Company provides flights to Rabanastre, Balfonheim and Archades for 210 gil, and it also has docks for private airships.

Treasures[]
During the game's prologue, that also works as a tutorial, the player controls Reks on the Order of the Knights of Dalmasca's quest to save King Raminas from a plot to assassinate him. The player may find two treasures in the Lower Apartments area, and they are both Potions. Later on the player may visit the town that has sprung outside the fortress, but it has no treasures to be found.
The treasures found are not changed in the Zodiac versions.

Quests[]
Hunts[]
Atomos is a Rank III Mark whose hunt becomes available after felling Judge Bergan at Mt Bur-Omisace. Atomos can be found in the Northern Skirts area of the Mosphoran Highwaste. The hunt is petitioned by Burrogh in Jajim Bazaar, Nalbina.
The Roblon is a Rank VI Mark whose hunt also becomes available after felling Bergan. Roblon can be found in the Overlooking Eternity area of the Nabreus Deadlands reached via a hidden path in the northwest part of The Slumbermead. The hunt is petitioned by Morgen.
The Goliath is a Rank VI Mark whose hunt can be undertaken after the events in the Draklor Laboratory. The Goliath is found in the Hall of Slumbering Might area of the Necrohol of Nabudis after being petitioned by Barrong.
The Deathscythe is a Rank VI Mark whose hunt can also be undertaken after the events in Draklor Laboratory. Deathscythe can be found in the Cloister of the Highborn area of the Necrohol of Nabudis, but to spawn it, the player must go to the Cloister of the Highborn and reduce one character's health to less than 10%. The hunt is petitioned by Popol.
Carrot is a Rank VII Elite Mark whose hunt becomes available after felling Judge Bergan at Mt Bur-Omisace. It is a giant malboro petitioned by Zammadria in the aerodrome.
Each of the hunts and their petitioners are part of the Jovy sidequest (see below).
July the Streetear[]
The party can meet July after obtaining the Dawn Shard, until defeating the boss at Mt Bur-Omisace. The player can take the Rabanastre–Nalbina skyferry to reach July, who is in the West Barbician zone of Nalbina Fortress. Completing the quest removes the blockade to Mosphoran Highwaste early.
No More Heroes?[]
Jovy is a seeq living in Nalbina who knew Vaan's elder brother Reks. After completing all the hunts at Nalbina, the player gets a scene with Jovy and some items.
Shops[]
- The inventory for the various shops changes throughout the game. These items may not all be available at the same time.
Nalbina is a good place to visit at the beginning of the game since the assortment available in shops is much better than in Rabanastre at that time.

Musical themes[]
During the prologue, the music that plays is "Into the Fortress", which returns in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings as a mission theme. When Vaan revisits the area, the song "Nalbina Fortress" plays. A piano arrangement of the theme is included on the Piano Collections: Final Fantasy XII album.
Other appearances[]
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Nalbina Fortress is mentioned as the location where, 30 years ago, Prince Rasler B'nargin Dalmasca held off the Garlean Empire's advance against Dalmasca for 6 months, but eventually failed and died. It is also known to be connected to the Garamsythe Waterway.
The fortress would be occupied by Garlemald and renamed Castrum Amicitia. 30 years after Dalmasca's fall, at the same time that the Bozjan Resistance was fighting on the Bozjan Southern Front, the Dalmascan resistance successfully reclaimed Nalbina after a hard-fought battle.
Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade[]
Final Fantasy Record Keeper[]
Vaan's brother Reks is part of the team trying to stop the assassination set to take place at the signing of Dalmasca's surrender to Archadia.
Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Portable[]
Nalbina Fortress is present in this crossover title as a stage.
