The Mythril Saber is a weapon for Cloud in Final Fantasy VII. It is the first weapon that Cloud can purchase at a shop, and provides minor stat increases over the Buster Sword, and three Materia slots total, two which are linked, and one unlinked. The player can equip it to Cloud or throw it.

The Mythril Saber can be purchased in Kalm and in Junon (before the player acquires the Highwind).

Mechanics

As the Mythril Saber has a base Attack stat bonus of 23, the base damage for physical attacks when the Mythril Saber is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Cloud's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Mythril Saber also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 98%, and grants a +4 bonus to Cloud's Magic stat when casting spells.

The Mythril Saber provides minor stat boosts over Cloud's Buster Sword, and an additional Materia slot. If the player was able to steal the Hardedge at the Shinra Bldg., they can ignore it; otherwise, the Mythril Saber is worth purchasing, especially considering the length of time before the player can purchase the Hardedge at a shop.

Mythril Saber has two linked Materia slots, and one unlinked one. The unlinked slot is therefore best given to a Command Materia or an Independent Materia, which cannot benefit from linking. On the linked Materia slots, offensive Magic Materia can benefit from a linked Support Materia, such as All or Elemental Materia, to take advantage of Cloud's high Magic and Strength stats.
