Mythril Mine is a dungeon in Final Fantasy VII located in the eastern continent. It is visited during "Going After Sephiroth" when the party pass through it in their pursuit. Mythril Mine is visited only once in the game, and is a fairly short dungeon with no boss battle. However, early on, it is useful as a place to level up Limit Breaks.

Overview[]

The Mythril Mine is located to the south on the eastern continent of the world map. The mines penetrate the mountain range in the eastern continent, connecting the Chocobo Farm in the Grasslands Area to Fort Condor and Junon in the Junon Area.

Tunnels[]

Mythril mines2

Tunnels.

This is where the party enters the mines. If the player did not yet visit Kalm before entering the mines, the party forces Cloud to turn back here. If the player hacked Cid to their save file when first entering this field, he will walk out in place of Cloud, but has no lines.

From the entrance at the top of the screen is an immediate path to the East area. The main path is down the left through a winding path that eventually leads to the West area. In the southern portion of the map, a detour right from the main path leads to a treasure chest contains a Mind Source.

East[]

East.

The east screen is not required for progression, but has a few items. An Ether is found on the staircase to the right, along with a treasure chest containing a Tent. Climbing the vines to the left finds the useful Long Range Materia.

West[]

West.

The first time the player comes to this screen, they have an event with the Turks. Tseng's dialogue is different depending on whether Aeris is in the active party.

The screen has three branching paths. Right leads back to the main Tunnels area, left up a set of vines leads to the exit to the dungeon, and north leads to the Cliff Edge room at the top.

Cliff Edge[]

Cliff Edge.

Cliff Edge is an optional screen with a few items. An Elixir is found in a treasure chest, and a Hi-Potion is found on the floor to the right. The screen is otherwise a dead-end, with only a path to return to the West screen.

Quests[]

The Mythril Mine is visited briefly during "Going After Sephiroth", and is not returned to later.

Though it is possible to visit the Mythril Mine before first traveling to Kalm, doing so will simply cause Cloud's party members to stop him from going deeper into the mines, telling him to go back to Kalm. If the marshes were crossed on a Chocobo, Cloud asks his steed to wait for him outside, which normally does not occur.

Bringing the Enemy Skill Materia lets the party learn Flame Thrower from the Ark Dragon.

The Mythril Mines are an excellent place to level up Limit Breaks early in the game. Enemy groups in the cliff edge have as many as five enemies. Using group attacks, like Matra Magic from the Enemy Skill Materia or magic with the All Materia, allows vast numbers of enemies to be defeated in a relatively short time.

Behind the scenes[]

If the player triggers the scene when the party asks Cloud to go back and Aeris is in the party, she will use Tifa's dialogue because the developers accidentally assigned Aeris with the wrong text ID. The line Aeris is meant to say can never be seen in a normal play-through, although it still exists in the game's text files.

Musical themes[]

The background music for the Mythril Mine is "In Search of the Man in Black".
