Mythril Knife (ミスリルナイフ, Misuriru Naifu?), also known as Mithril or Silver Knife, is a recurring weapon in the series. It is oftentimes a low-ranked knife or dagger, providing minimal attack power and no special effects.

Mythril Knife is a low-ranked dagger that provides 10 Attack, 15 Accuracy, and 16 Critical. It can be bought for 800 gil (640 on Easy mode) at Crescent Lake, or found in Castle Cornelia (with the Mystic Key), Mount Duergar, and Marsh Cave. It can be equipped by all classes but the White Mage, White Wizard, Monk, and Black Belt.

It can be equipped by Terra, Locke, Edgar, Shadow, Celes, Setzer, Strago, Mog, Relm, and Gogo.
Mythril Knife is a dagger that provides 12 damage and 195 Delay. It deals 3.69 damage per second and accumulates 53 TP per hit. It can be equipped by level 31 Warrior, Thief, Paladin, Dark Knight, Bard, Ranger, Samurai, Ninja, Dragoon, Corsair, Puppetmaster, and Dancer. It can be bought for 14,560 gil from Coumuna in Upper Jeuno (H-8). It is found in a Treasure Casket in Rolanberry Fields.
The original Mythril Knife and Aetherial Mythril Knife were weapons for Paladins. They were among many dagger-like gladiator's arms that were renamed and remodeled in patch 2.3, becoming the Mythril Broadsword and Aetherial Mythril Broadsword instead. This was done to facilitate the imminent arrival of the dagger-wielding rogue and ninja disciplines in patch 2.4.
Patch 2.4 would introduce the Mythril Knives as a set of rogue's arms for ninjas. They can be crafted by blacksmiths, rewards from the quest Road to Redemption, or purchased for 4,159 gil in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul'dah, Ishgard, and the Coerthas Central Highlands. Aetherial Mythril Knives can also rarely be found in treasure coffers during levequests.

Etymology[edit | edit source]
mithril" is a metal found in many fantasy worlds. It was originally introduced by the fantasy writings of J. R. R. Tolkien, being present in his Middle-earth. It resembles silver but is stronger than steel, and much lighter in weight than either. The author first wrote of it in The Lord of the Rings, and it is retrospectively mentioned in the third, revised edition of The Hobbit in 1966. In the first 1937 edition, the mail shirt given to Bilbo is described as being made of "silvered steel".
