The Myrmecoleon, also known as the Milmecoreo, is an enemy from Final Fantasy III found in the Molten Cave. This monster seems to be an aquatic version of the mythical Basilisk, due to emphasis on petrification in both the loot and damage tables. It is suggested to bring along plenty of Softs when traversing the dungeon to cure Petrify quickly, and to attack it using Ice-elemental attacks in the NES/Pixel Remaster version.

Myrmecoleon is a legendary creature from Medieval bestiaries. It is a Chimera, half ant, half lion. It is said that because the lion part craves meat and the ant part craves grain, the Myrmcoleon will starve.
