Mug is a command ability in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth granted by a level two 
Steal Materia. It attempts to take an item from an enemy, as well as inflict physical damage.
Mug previously appeared in Final Fantasy VII Remake, but provided through means other than materia. Mug in Rebirth is more reminiscent of its Final Fantasy VII appearance, in which it was provided by materia.
Mechanics[]
The success of Mug is identical to the success of a Steal ability.
Use[]
Mug is a more ATB-efficient ability than Steal due to its ability to deal damage when used. As such, it should be used when attempting to steal an item in most cases. The damage dealt by Mug is physical, meaning party members with higher 
Attack Power (namely Tifa Lockhart, Cloud, Red XIII, Cait Sith, or Yuffie).
There are cases where the player will still need to use Steal, such as to not wake an enemy up from 
Sleep or to avoid killing an enemy with an item to be stolen. Tonberry King's Pristine Crown also cannot be stolen with Mug, the player needs to use Steal.
