Concept artwork for Final Fantasy IX.
The Mu (ムー, Mū?), also known as the Rhodox, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing Final Fantasy VI. While its appearance differs with each title, the Mu is generally depicted as rodent-like creatures with long tails, able to burrow into the ground. It is typically a weak enemy encountered early in the game.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy VI[]

Final Fantasy VII[]
The Mu appears as an enemy encountered in the Grasslands Area, where the player can learn the Enemy Skill L4 Suicide from it. It is a generally weak enemy otherwise, and can even be beneficial to encountered as it sometimes heals the party with Hot Springs and increases the Gil reward for defeating it by 10 whenever it uses Gold Mountain.

The Mu appears as an enemy encountered in the Grasslands. It also has a variation called Mi.
Final Fantasy IX[]

Final Fantasy XII[]
The Mu appears as a member of the dreamhare genus encountered in the Feywood. It frequently casts Confuse, making it a nuisance to fight. The Rare Game Spee is a derivation of the Mu.
Final Fantasy XIII-2[]
The Mu does not make an appearance, but is mentioned in the Brain Blast minigame in Academia. It is revealed that the Sanctum decided against creating bioweapons out of the Mu because it would not be taken seriously by enemy soldiers.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Mica the Magical Mu appears as the mascot of the Yesterland theme park in Living Memory. He is fought as a boss in "Mascot Murder" FATE. As one of Dawntrail's many references to Final Fantasy IX, Mica's battle theme is the friendly monsters theme from the latter game, referencing the friendly Mu.
In addition, Mus appear in
AAC Cruiserweight M2 (Savage), during the battle against Sugar Riot.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles[]
