Mount Ordeals is a Trial Trial in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker added in patch 6.3 "Gods Revel, Lands Tremble". It is a battle against the Autarch of Flame, Rubicante.

Story[]

Normal[]

Though seemingly impossible, Vrtra senses the presence of Azdaja in the Source, prompting you to travel north to bitterly cold Garlemald. In the mountains do you do battle with Cagnazzo, but though you prevail, your victory proves hollow. The archfiend of fire, Rubicante, seizes on your absence from Radz-at-Han and moves to destroy the voidgate in Alzadaal's Legacy. When confronted at the base of Khadga, he issues you a challenge—and thus do you make for the summit to extinguish the flame of the voidsent's ambition.

Extreme[]

A monster in flesh, yet a man in spirit... Hearing the tale of your bout with Rubicante sets the wandering minstrel's mind to racing. What if the voidsent drank deeper of the great wyrm's aether? It is not long before the minstrel—with the help of his seemingly boundless imagination—conjures a fiery new composition. The pyretic tones set your ears to burning as your mind hearkens back to that fateful encounter with the archfiend of fire.

Musical themes[]

Mount Ordeals' trial theme is "Forged in Crimson", a rendition of "Battle With the Four Fiends" from Final Fantasy IV arranged by Kenichi Maeyamada with lyrics by Takashi Tokita. Maeyamada, also known as Hyadain, was known for creating a parody version of "Battle with the Four Fiends" that formed the basis for his new arrangement. This version features a male and female choir who alternate singing the theme throughout.

Behind the scenes[]

When the battle begins, Rubicante transforms the arena into a location that looks completely different from Thavnair. As revealed in flashbacks, this is based on the original Mount Ordeals that existed on The Thirteenth prior to the flood where the mortal Rubicante resided.

Etymology[]

Mount Ordeals is named after the location of the same name in Final Fantasy IV, where Cecil Harvey undertook his trial to become a Paladin.
