Motte is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is the Dreamer in charge of the Hatching-tide celebration in La Noscea.
History[]
Hatching-tide 2015[]
Jihli Aliapoh was again visited by the Archons, this time in her dream she saw spriggan-shaped adventurers following an auspicious spriggan, who guided them to a wondrous treasure. She asks the Warrior of Light to use the illusory magic of the Sylphs to transform into a spriggan and bring her vision to life. Once returned to Jihli Aliapoh, the Warrior of Light reported about an unusual spriggan holding a checkered egg. Jihli recognized the auspicious spriggan from her vision, and convinced once again that the prophecy of the Archons is coming true, she asks for help in tracking the spriggan, so that he can guide the Warrior of Light to the treasure of which the Archons have spoken.[1]
Jihli asked the Warrior of Light to follow the spriggan to Ul'dah. In the city-state, the Dreamer Nonotta asks the Warrior of Light to help the spriggan escape from a group of hunters called "Shellshockers". Once done, the Warrior of Light returns to report back to Nonotta. Just as she is about to explain the next stage of the prophecy, the leader of the Shellshocker approaches and speaks to her with suspicious familiarity, and Nonotta tries to disguise it by pretending not to know him.[2]
Nonotta changes the subject by saying that the spriggan has gone to Limsa Lominsa and asks the Warrior of Light to follow him. Warior of Light meets with Motte, who reveals that the auspicious spriggan has indeed been spotted in Limsa Lominsa. At least, she thinks so since three similar spriggans, each carrying an unusual egg, were seen running around the upper deck. She asks the Warrior of Light to expose the true nature of the suspicious spriggans. The Warrior of Light revealed that two of the spriggans were actually Shellshocker members in disguise. The third spriggan was in fact the auspicious spriggan from Jihli Aliapoh's vision. The spriggan departs, leaving a fragmentary message of great eggs and lucky treasures. The spriggan's words strike Motte. Jihli didn't just dream of spriggans in cities; she saw spriggans in the jungle too, dancing around giant floating eggs and trying to break them. Her Dreamers were able to trace the locations of these scenes and found the same eggs that Jihli dreamed about.[3]
When the Warrior of Light returned with a lucky egg, Motte says she is sure that egg contained the prophesied treasure. But when Jihli arrives to testify, the auspicious spriggan also appears to Motte. Forced to confess, Motte explained that the events of the day were nothing more than a drama staged by her and the other Dreamers. She said that in the end, she was to replace the contents of the lucky egg with a treasure map that would guide Jihli to the Bismarck. and apologetically, Motte asks that the Warrior of Light also go to the Bismarck, to partake of the "wonderful treasure" that she and her accomplices have prepared. When they arrive, they discover that her Dreamers have organized a surprise party for her. Jihli is thrilled to see so many sympathizers coming together to share the warmth of their hearts, and recalls the words that the Archons of old spoke to her in her dream.[3]
Hatching-tide 2016[]
When the Dreamers prepare three activities for the Warrior of Light, Motte is in charge of one of them. She has painted colorful partitions in front of the amphitheater creating a game for Warrior of Light to observe and count how many eggs have been carried by a group of Spriggans.[4]
Hatching-tide 2017[]
To recreate the dream that Jihli Aliapoh had that year, the Dreamers created a floating egg that was called the eggshilaration system. Motto was responsible for lending it to the Warrior of Light and teaching the warrior how to use its functions.[5]
